Anyone else having issues getting on the game? Keep getting error 2005... basically since the game can't connect to the website server it can't authenticate my login information... -_-
So annoying lol, I literally JUST downloaded the game too.

I believe the official website's tech forum has a sticky regarding some of those errors.

Make sure you open the right ports.

lol bro, what part of "Website repeatedly down" didn't you get? Little difficult to check the tech forums when the website itself is down.

edit: Even tried their "fix" for error #2005 which is halarious by the way.... Why would your computer clock have anything to do with the friggen game in the first place.... Nonetheless I played with it numerous times with no success. It's cannot contact the Authentication Server itself, meaning the website is down and it can't confirm my account.

Since you can't fix your own problem and are asking for help, how about trying not to be a prick.

Since neither the website nor the authentication server has been down repeatedly, it's likely a problem on your end, which is what Mazra was telling you. If they were down repeatedly, the forums would be flooded with complaints.

As far as the system clock, if the system clock is too far off the authentication server will pick-up on it and immediately drop the incoming connection, resulting in an error.

Check your ports and make sure the incoming and outgoing are authorized in your firewall and security software.

Well, bro, originally I was going to respond with a simple "website isn't down, it's your connection", but then I read your post (which is generally a good idea to do before responding) and saw that you wrote the following:

Reckthor wrote:

Which gave me the impression that YOUR GAME couldn't connect to the website, not your browser. Granted, if the game can't connect to the website, one might conclude that your browser can't either, however, the game operates in mysterious ways, such as me running it via port 80 (browser connection) and still getting mad latency because I didn't have the right port range opened.

As such, I assumed your issue was with the game client, not your connection in general. Forgive my assumption and I apologize for trying to help you out. Good luck figuring things out.

Not saying this has anything to do with it, but do you happen to use AT&T's Uverse? I seem to recall hearing a lot of these errors being associated with AT&T.

Other than that, I just ran a Google search:
http://www.gamebrood.com/2011/03/02/rift-pc-mmo-fix-and-fixes-to-crashes-errors-freezes-black-screen-error-connection-issues-slow-framerate-poor-graphics-authentication-problem-no-sound-error-2002-error-2005-and-more/
Warning, this is NOT my advice, so I have no idea if it works or not!

Problem #7: Encounter error 2005 Failed to Connect to the Authentication Server after launching Rift PC

Possible Solution #1:

Make sure the date and time settings in your PC is corret

Possible Solution #2: (by Trion, the developers of Rift)

Disable all non-essential startup items and services that are running in the background. The best way to do this is through the System Configuration utility. You can run this utility by following the steps below:

1. Press the Windows + R keys simultaneously.
2. In the Run window that appears, type “msconfig” without the quotes and click OK.
3. In the System Configuration window, click on the Startup tab.
4. Click the Disable all button.
5. Click on the Services tab.
6. Click on the checkbox next to “Hide all Microsoft services”, which will remove all of the Microsoft services from the Services list.
7. Click on the Disable all button.
8. Click OK.

You will then be prompted to restart the computer, which you should do before proceeding.

Next you will need to ping our patching server to get the IP of the closest patching server to you. Do this by opening a CMD window (Windows key + R then type in cmd and hit enter)

When you have the CMD window open type in the command “ping update2.triongames.com” without the quotes. You will see the IP address in brackets next to an Akamai address example being a308.g.akamai.net [63.97.123.50]. Write down the IP address that is in brackets.

Now you are going to type in a command that will have you manually patch the game using that server specifically. First step is getting into the folder it was installed to in the command window.

For Windows 7 type this into CMD “cd C:\Program Files (x86)\RIFT Game” without the quotes or “C:\Program Files\RIFT Game” without the quotes for XP\Vista. Now that you are here we will have you run the patcher directly. Type the following command. riftpatchlive.exe -hosts update2.triongames.com:80:”ip address from the ping” (remove the quotes) Example: riftpatchlive.exe -hosts update2.triongames.com:80:208.94.26.142

This will bring up the game patcher on the computer, go ahead and login and begin to patch. This should allow you to connect to this one patch server. If you had already downloaded part of the patch please delete what you already had and start over so there is no mismatch of data.

I'm having the same issue. All other websites work but the official rift forums appear to be down for me. I also cannot log into rift getting a Error #2005. I tried everything here so far but nothing has worked. I also went in to check the status of my account, but it will not let me in to that page either. It says my account has been disabled or I have the wrong username or password. So just in case my account got hacked I tried to get them to send me the make a new password page. nothing there either. So I can only assume my account has been disabled, which is frustrating because no matter how many times I call support is ALWAYS busy. So now I am relegated to submitting an internet support request and hoping they answer quickly.

So if you continue getting this error it might be because your account has been disabled for one reason or another. But that still does not explain why the official rift forums refuse to load while all other websites, including all of the rest of the official rift site, load fine.

Any more information anyone has about this is appreciated.

I am having the same problem today myself. I cannot access the website in my BROWSER either, it times out and says server could not be found. All other websites I try work just fine. When I try to load the game I get the 2005 error. I've been sucessfully playing this game since headstart launched. I just played last night, nothing has changed. It almost has to be something on their end.

Same problem here. Cannot get on any parts of the Rift website and I get a 2005 error when trying to log in the game. Had no problem just an hour ago. Husband is having the same problem logging in on his machine.

Same problem. Error 2005 on two separate computers and can't access either riftgame.com or the trionworlds websites. It would seem some kind of routing computer somewhere along the lines is down.

I use Time Warner Cable.

Thanks Armandra, I actually just got Rift today and couldn't connect from home. Remote Desktop'd into a comp where I work and I could access the forums from there to notice tons of people having the problem today. That gave me a little hope that it was a short term problem and not one specific to my setup/ISP. The tweet you relayed though has me feeling a lot better.

Mediacom, Delaware.

Also having issues (Rogers Cable, ON)... but good to see a response somewhere.

They mention though the 2005 and forums, but I've found it's also their trionworlds domain as well (account management).

Guys,

Its gonna be down. Their infrastructure is having issues. May be trion side network issues, but my bet is something worse (storage issues across their ESX cluster). Could be anywhere from a half an hour to 12 hours depending on how bad it is. ITS NOT YOUR CONNECTION RIGHT NOW. so no need to post that its happening to you and who your local ISP is. Its Trion's problem, and I'm sure they are working really hard to get us back up and pwning.

I've seen this problem before. All they have to do is get a new hamster for the wheel. Hopefully, Trionworlds HQ is very near a pet store =)

Yes same problem, Columbus, Ohio. Time Warner. Main web site and game connectivity issues. Ditto on the redundant hamsters, lol!

BTW...Chickenfries, if they're having an ESX problem, how would you know that? Which version is it they are using? 2.x, 3.0, 3.5, 4.x (vSphere?)

UPDATE - 3/14/2011 - 8:40PM EST - BOTH SITE AND GAME LOGIN ARE WORKING FOR ME NOW.
THANK YOU FOR WORKING SO HARD TO FIX IT! (I am excited, sorry for all caps)

FYI - when I was in the middle of checking this out about 5 mins ago, I didn't see anything wrong with routing to them (reasonable times, both end at 208.94.26.149), their DNS name servers seem ok, all A and PTR records good, ISP (well, they are their own ISP lol). I tested connections from both Insight and Time Warner...on Insight there was never a problem, on Time Warner, there WAS. One curiousity, I could telnet to port 443 from Time Warner to rift.trionworlds.com, but could not login...while from Insight I could both telnet to port 443 and login. Firewall or IPS issue on their end, or Time Warner's maybe? Who knows...it's working now time to play LOL!

Here is another good tip {kudos if someone already mentioned this...only read the first three answers}-

If you have router access type 192.168.2.1 in your browser box. Enter your login/password (if not known enter login/password or get the info from your manufacturer/bundled documents). Go to your advanced settings and find the QoS Settings tab. On the QoS priority rule page (click the [Setup QoS Rule] button if you have a GUI based control panel) create a new rule.

95% of all routers won't have every game so select on-line gaming and then select add a new game. Use the following parameters for your rule.
-TCP/UDP (UDP is not used for playing but it is used for patching)
-port range 6520-6540
Be sure to give it the highest priority.

This is really great if you are in a dorm using load balancing or the shared line has a ton of traffic. Lowering the other default ports to high helps too! [wink]

Bah, still not fixed on my end. I've tried everything too.... This is gettin' *** lol. I literally just bought the game and can't do anything with it. Still can't get into anything but their support site as well. Reeeeeeally lame XD

Edit: I hate looking at posts where people are talking about JUST having this issue. It's been effecting me for over 3 days now lol. Well, I'm glad it's fixed for some of you :D

Mine was good to go when I got home last night...so...fixed! (for me).

There is a specific thread for Error 2005 in the technical forum of the official site. If people still have the issue I would reccomment posting up there and sending in a CS ticket. Might be a slightly different issue than the rest of us.

lol, people still having that problem can't exactly get onto the forum on their official site considering it somehow blocks you from the site, logging on, and patching all together...

I'm really trying not to be a douche and get discouraged but it's difficult when I payed over 70 bucks for something I can't use, and has been taking up my free time attempting to toy with the settings on my computer that has accomplished nothing so far but giving me false hope and additional aggravation... and in the end just makes me /facepalm.
