I've seen an increasing amount of spam for things like this:

Quote:
<deleted in edit> is supplying currencies, power leveling . They are good reputation and very nice .

Are the spammers just using clever mark up tricks to break the filters, or have the filters somehow gotten bollixed?

Hmmmm... Allakhazam!

[Seems at least some of the filters still work.]

Edited to reflect original post having been deleted. No sense in preserving the ad.

They change website addresses often enough that new filters may not exist for that current one. I've seen a ton of <URL Removed> and cannotlinkto replacements, so they mostly seem to be working. It's just the new ones haven't been programmed yet, methinks.

Yes, a lot of the posts seem to get edited several times and even the "copy pasta random WOW stuff to camouflage a link" get caught with decent regularity. The ones I'm referring to are odd in that they don't seem to bother with those tricks, the come right out and mention "WOW Gold" or "Powerleveling" right in the text and title. I linked to one such on the theory that even though it is nuked, the admins can probably track it down.

If you recall, when I started posting the filters were so twitchy I kept getting posts randomly censored for things that weren't even in the message. Thus, my curiosity about whether the spammers are using mark up tricks or if something changed with the filters. Those were the kind of filter that did things like change Allakhazam to Allakhazam and which still seem to be at least partially in place.

The filters take time to process. Every time you post. your post is checked against the filters and the smilies list. The more things we add to it, the longer it takes. Usually we're talking fractions of a second, but under really high load days, it adds up. So we only add sites to the filter if they are getting used enough that we are seeing them on a regular basis. There are also a few other things in the background that may lead certain posters from certain geograpically spam prone regions to experiance additional filterage...

Smiley: eek Hawaiian and Korean posters?

Thanks for the the background, Kao. Given how filters can slow a PC down, I can imagine that they'd do the same on your side. I'll just keep whacking the report button. By convenient happenstance, many of them seem to post during just the same hours that I'm on. Now, about that title...
