lol. That's the model they used in the intro cinematic too. Never quite understood why they didn't give the main characters custom models, like they did in DA2, to tell the truth. Always was a little weird when you inevitably ended up sharing your hair style with someone in camp, because they took all the decent ones. Smiley: mad

The top/banner image with her holding the lightning? I don't remember that but I may have missed it. It looks like Morrigan: The Awkward Teen Years

Ha-ha, you paid for Witch Hunt.

Edit: Also, nice picture. It looks like Morrigan grew 12 years younger, ate a bunch of ice cream sandwiches and hit herself in the face with a trash can lid.

Actually, I didn't buy that one. I think I bought the Return to Ostagar, Leliana, and Golems DLCs.

The intro when loading up the game, not when starting a new one. I don't really know what to call that one. It's where Leliana, the Warden, and Morrigan all fight a dragon. Might be others in there too, I don't remember.

Huh. I believe you, I just don't remember it. Maybe I was getting a drink at the time.

As an aside, it's a good thing you become a Grey Warden or else everyone in Feralden would be forced to call you "Hey, you" the entire game.

Ummm, it's that video that starts out with the Warden looking up with growing eyes, Leliana does a back-flip off of a big pillar, Morrigan turns into a spider and attacks some Darkspawn. Jog your memory?

Wait... we're on the internet...

Found it! Well, I found the extended trailer that the opening cinematic is a part of.

I kinda want to play on the PC just to download the Mod that lets you have that skin for your Warden...

Also, I like all 3 of those characters way more when they are being this badass, lol.

The in-game scene (which might not play on PC) is just the latter parts, where you fight Darkspawn and then the dragon. It's more clips from this than anything else.

Do you guys really think it's that much of an improvement to get the PC version if you already have a console version? I have the basic game for PC (no DLCs or Awakening) but my save file for PC is pretty far behind my file for the 360.

For ten bucks for the base game+DLC+Awakening+DA2 I'd say yes but I'll admit that I haven't played it on a 360 to give an honest opinion. But that much content for ten bucks makes it hard to go wrong, especially if you don't have DA2.

There are some really nifty armor textures out there, and if you intend to go female noble that romances Alistair, you can download a wedding mod.

There's also that lovely mod that gets rid of the giant spiders...

If you really have a problem using Zev as a melee rogue (and you care) there's an advanced tactics mod that makes your rogue party members attack from behind the mob for backstab. It's pretty fun, but it makes the game easy (it also sets up your tactics for you, if you want), so you'll probably want to bump up the difficulty.

The thing I didn't like about him so much was his lack of lockpick early on. I may have to find a mod that lets me redo his points if I play through again. Hell, who am I kidding? WHEN.

It always did irritate me that he wasn't cunning-based, since it's so much better than Dexterity. Not nearly as much as before they patched it, but it's still the best stat for DW. Bows, on the other hand, do want Dex. And Leliana gets cunning bonuses. Smiley: mad

You can also get it to work by registering the game on EA's site, though that's more of a pain in the ass than just downloading the update. The update did break my start menu links though, I had to delete and recreate the damn things to be able to launch the game from there.

As to game content, I'm pretty disappointed in what they did to the Blood Dragon armor. Back when the game was first released, it was one of the best armor sets in the game for a sword and shield tank. They pretty much ruined the set with the stat changes. It's not even worth buying the rest of the set off of that damn Dwarf at camp now.

If you really want to cheat, using the PC version allows access to the Developers Console.

Edit: I haven't used it personally, I just learned about it due to a bug with Leliana where her affection can outpace her conversation chains and you miss out on her side quest. As it turned out, I just used the prank gift to lower her affection, had the talk and used the Feastday gift to restore her feelings. Women Smiley: rolleyes

I remember that. It wasn't nerfed as badly on the PS3 (no clue why), but it still was bad. If you bee-lined for heavy armor, it was probably going to be the best thing you had until you got the Juggernaut set, though. That is, unless you bought Return to Ostagar.

And HOLY HELL I never realized just how badly ported this game was. It's crazy. Load times are spectacular, the interface actually works, there's no awkward delays when you click dialogue choices, the camera is super controllable and the game actually feels way more tactical.

Me likey.

Question though--is there a way to check your fps? I'm debating whether or not it's worth setting my graphics to very high or not...

As a follow-up to my Leliana-Morrigan love triangle, I am sad to report that the same thing didn't work with Leliana and Alister. Running the same sequence that allowed me to be comfortably in love with both ladies still earns me an accusatory "You love Alister, don't you?" when I talk to Big Red.

I know you were waiting on edge to see how that one wrapped up. I figured Alister ain't never going to put an elven mage on the throne anyway and he makes me want to beat him with a sock full of nails every time he opens his mouth so it wasn't a difficult final decision.

Got sick for 2 days, and I'm about 30 hours in now and thinking of starting over. I've cleared the Dalish area and got them onboard, most of the other places I'm part way through as I've gone exploring and such. Went in pretty much blind and there's a lot of 'oops' moments I'd like to go back and fix. Things like

-I started playing the game without pausing in combat, before I realized it's kind of a necessity.
-The number of times I got my party members killed before I figured out the controls.
-Dumping all my gear at the first town because my pack was full and then picking up Leliana and Sten like 15 minutes later.
-Finally finding out where I could train my mage as a healer. It's been a tough go without a real healer.
-Not picking up herbalism on my character with Morrigan available so soon. (There's a lot of 'skill' stuff like this I'd probably do over).
-I want to kind of respec just about everyone now that I know who I have along. Alistair as a tank-ish character is about the only one who's gone well; everyone else has kind of advanced in fits and spurts as others have joined the group.
-I think I'd like more variety in magic. My char is mostly a healer with a couple of other spells I dabbled in, and Morrigan was mostly shifting, but that seems like not the best idea. I also could use more some of the AoE spells, as I've mostly avoided those. So it's pretty much just healing magic at this point, which seems to make the fights take forever.

There's a lot more than that, but it's a good start. It's been kind of fun going in blind and seeing where it takes you; learning as I go and stuff. Still not knowing much of what I was doing is starting to become a hindrance I think. A bit of a debate on whether to start over or just try and slog my way through it.

Good Times. Smiley: grin

As noted, shape-shifting sucks but Morrigan is a beast with Entropy in my experience. Sleep alone makes things get easy in a hurry assuming no one else goes all AoE and breaks the effect. My mage went all Primal so far except for a single heal so I don't have to drag Wynne along and it's fun provided you don't mind spending a lot of time running in circles screaming "getitoffme!...getitoffme!" Aggro control isn't my forte.

I've never spent much time on the "trade skills" aside from making lesser poultices and the lower effect stun poison. Then again, I never use anything except poultices anyway unless I'm on a rogue to use poison. All my other "potion" type things get vendored as do the components.

I'd expect you CAN make it work with what you have but, if you've enjoyed the game so far, start over if it'll satisfy you. You can always run the sections in a different order, try a new race/class/status for the beginning, etc. Even sections you've done can change as a result -- Orzammar for my casteless dwarf rogue was (somewhat) different than it was for my human noble warrior. Point being, if you're playing for the "experience" you shouldn't hurt by starting over.

Yeah, she does seem to be. I'd like to use her as more of a CC individual I think. As of late she's been throwing out a couple of spells, and dropping into bear or spider, unless something happens to my mage character and I need an emergency heal. But yeah, "shape-shifting sucks" sums up my experience with her pretty well. Plus I'm starting to feel like I need to spread my characters out more. Enemy mages don't seem to hesitate to bomb their own with AoE, with 2 characters stuck in the melee it gets painful.

I never got Wynne, as I was afraid to go into the mage tower until I had a better idea of what I was doing. You know, with the guard saying he's locking the door behind me and stuff. I've just been going there to get lyrium dust to make potions as I seem to go through a good number of them. I'm assuming this gets a bit better once you specialize into spirit healer perhaps?

How are the traps? I put a point into it to try in out on Alistair. But since he's running into the fray all the time he doesn't seems to make much use of anything. Is it worth say, dropping a leghold trap as an archer or mage or something? Or is it too hard to actually make use out of things like that? I mean I can target the paralysis glyph pretty easily I suppose.

There's so much I'm still learning about what's actually works and what doesn't... Smiley: lol

Yeah, I suspect I could slog through, but it's starting to be more of a pain than it's worth. I'm correcting things as I go, but all those nooby mistakes are starting to be a bit much to overcome at this point. Plus, yeah, getting some more practice on the other classes wouldn't hurt either...

I was wondering if that was you lol. I <3 Gamefaqs, and I saw the character guide and noticed the name.

I didn't really get a chance to play last night, as I've had some technical issues. For whatever reason, I cannot log into Bioware in the game. Even though I know I have the password right, it keeps telling me it's wrong. I use LastPass, and I had generated a random password for Origins/Bioware, and I wrote it down, so I know it's correct.

I also found a save file for a female elf mage that had progressed to right after the Tower once you get Morrigan in your party. I downloaded that, and for some reason I can't actually load it even though I have all the DLC. Any time I do, I get a light boom sound, and nothing happens. Only thing she has that I don't are some collector's edition items, so maybe that's it.

Can't get the stupid potion for respeccing to work either. The potion is there, I drink it, I see my mage drink it, but nothing happens. And it's completely grayed out for all my other toons. I thought modding was supposed to make this game more fun, not more frustrating. -.-

It's just more set-up and hassle than it's worth between needing to park your companions, sneak ahead, set the trap, aggro the stuff and lead them into it while your guys are still parked (so they don't rush ahead)...

Easier to just poke shit to death with pointy metal bits.

I tried traps in Redcliffe Castle with that room full of a bunch of dogs. Set them up in the small corridor between that room and the room outside. Useless. Dropped like 7-8 of them and the dogs still wiped my ass. Then I learned not to set my characters on default. Ooooooh, what a difference that made.

I was wondering if that was you lol. I <3 Gamefaqs, and I saw the character guide and noticed the name.

Yep that's me. I was deep into DA a while back and used to always be on the GameFAQs DA boards. Me and Ripstrawberry I think it was worked out character development for each class. I was supposed to go back and add some stuff to the guide, but then I got back into WoW and stopped playing and eventually traded DA in for something else.

I as cleaning my condo a couple weeks ago and realized I still had the DA strategy guide and that made me want to go buy the game. So the next time GameStop had a B2G1 Free sale I made sure the DA ultimate/deluxe/special/supercaptaincoolman edition was one of my 3 games.

I've now got sucked into Star Wars and still haven't picked DA back up. I will though, eventually I will.

Ugh, okay scratch that then, this was the kind of situation I was thinking they'd be helpful with. I haven't gone into the castle yet (I saved the town and then thought I'd poke around elsewhere), but all those kinds of situations where it's like ZOMG20WOLVESNAO! I was thinking to have a couple set for after my glyphs wear off.

And yeah the charging in thing. My poor mage having to clear so much of that tower at Ostagar solo after people thought running ahead was fun... Smiley: frown

I did traps on my first playthrough and it was kind of hit and miss. There were some places where you could abuse them, but a lot of the time they offered minimal returns. The real limitation is all the points you put into the skills and then the gold cost for recipes and components. It can be fun to set up a good ambush, but most of the time it isn't worth the hassle. By the time I got to the end of the game I wasn't using them at all.

Rather than dropping eight traps, I dropped one Inferno and one Fireball on the dog room. That worked nicely Smiley: grin

Mage tower is always my first stop, because of the stat bonuses from the fade. With them, you don't need to waste excess points on cunning for Persuasion, meet gear requirements that much earlier, get access to the best healer ASAP, and are just sturdier all around (particularly nice if you are going Arcane Warrior, as you'll start off with a much better attack stat).

Game kinda nudges you towards Redcliffe first, but whatever.

As a warrior, where the hell do I get training for the specialties anyway? I suppose I could Google it, but...

I don't even know why, Redcliffe is probably the hardest part of the game, along with the bandits that jump you in the capital.

I find the random wolf attacks while traveling around impossible. I have to save before leaving any area.

Those wolf attacks can be seriously and randomly brutal.
