ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE

Crafting professions will include skinning, foraging, and mining. Some other crafting professions will be runecraft, alchemy, tailoring. I've heard blacksmithing..so I'm guessing perhaps weaponsmith and armor smithing. You will be able to choose 3 professions.

There will be 2 levels of crafting. One that is considered common for general crafters, and one more advanced using augmentations for more serious crafters. Crafters will be able to choose what augmentation they want to use, it will not be random.

Some professions will be able to deconstruct.

Nodes will give up all materials it has to give on one pull, no multiable pulls needed.

Crafting experience and adventuring experience are all one, not separate experiences. It is possible to level up on just crafting experience.
In crafting you can grind, but there are writs EQ2 style. There will be unique recipes to be found, looted or purchased.

Is foraging like skinning on humanoids or something? I always want something similar to that in games I play, I hate killing a humanoid wearing clothing and looking them for nothing.

Foraging is collecting componants from plants.

Always been a Fan of minning, especially in eve. I'm prolly always one of the few that actually enjoyed the mini-game in FFXIV. not to complex but might as well be doing something other than a single click gather.

Interesting, hopefully crafting in Rift will be rewarding and worthwhile.

I remember reading that crafting ties in with opening rifts to expert dungeons, a step in the right direction imo.

Are nodes for gathering professions a one-time deal, such as click to forage once or would be it multiple times? I am wondering how time-consuming collecting materials from a node will be.

I think it's awesome that they gave Crafters a kind of "Prestige" class option. Definitely caught my attention! ^^

Thanks Elf for the tidbit...a very appealing feature indeed. I think I'll actually like gathering professions for once.

Somethings I'm curious about:

-Can anyone take any crafting skill?
-Can you have multiple crafting skills?
-Is the crafting system passive (e.g. WoW) or active? (e.g. EQ2)

The crafting sounds pretty neat if it's being used as more than just a "get stuff for doing stuff" model.

Somewhat on the same topic, enchanting is quite simple in this game as well. Apparently rather than +1, +2, +3 ect to make your items better like most of the fail mmorpgs out there, Rift has a system where you add specific bonuses to your items. It's not known whether its a single enchant type of deal or if the items will have sockets in them like diablo 2, however it is known you can increase attack power for weapons, attack speed, add various elemental damages, ect. For armors its more defense and resistances and things of that nature.

@Suikun
I think that only being able to take 'one' crafting skill is kind of old hat. I mean, even Ultima had more than one available and that game is way old.

Also, it's silly to allow one side to have the ability to craft something and not give the other side the same opportunity. People would bring up balance issues and blahblahblah.

More than likely it will be like WoW, I mean lets face it Rift is a pretty dead on WoW clone. So more than likely you will be able to level 2 crafting type trees then 2 gathering type trees. It's been a while since I played WoW and that was back in vanilla and thats how I remember it.

You will be able to only choose 3 professions, and, unfortunately, the harvesting type activities count as professions.

@zonjinn

It's very obvious and has been stated several times on other forums. I guess I can toss the reasons why onto here. To be honest, it's easier to just point out the things that aren't alike, pretty much everything else is the same basic concepts.

Rift has its "rifts" which are actually the same thing Warhammer Online uses already just slightly altered. However WoW doesn't have it so it makes the list. Then there are the branching soul trees, which is fairly unique and adds some diversity which is good with me. Next is the fact they got rid of tiered sets, so now everyone won't be running around with the same exact weapons armors at the endgame phase. Well for the most part anyways, overall though certain items will be better for specific builds so there will be variety. Guild leveling/Guild quests, I don't believe WoW had those either. Everything else though is basically the same, just looks different and MUCH better graphics.

I like that it is all one leveling experience, I enjoy crafting as an augmentation to leveling and the PvE/PvP aspects of the game, not in place of them.

i guess then rift is a clone of ever other mmo that has ever been made, and the same could be said for every game. so therefore we are all still playing uo/eq because those were the first ones

I know there will be essences, which is not the same as augmentations, but which seem to sort of do the some of the same things but know I haven't done this yet. Essences can be gotten for loot on rifts and other mobs, and they are gear enhancers that can be socked onto your gear, but are not permanent; meaning that you can change them in and out depending on your needs.

I hope this answers part of your question.

Wonder if you can take all 3 crafts to the max level or just 1 and the others to a limit?

Interesting. This sounds like a good base for a crafting system. I really hated FFXI's where if you failed you destroyed certain items. You always got a random amount, and need 1 more of something to make 2 stacks of another.. something stupid like that. Aion's isn't bad, but the chance of failure even at higher levels is again, kind of frustrating. At least the armor and weapon fluxes were easy to get though. There was only one way to get the crafting crystals other then auctions in FFXI, and they were a small amount in high demand.

Crafting should be available to anyone that wants to succeed at a profession, but it shouldn't be as mind numbing as WoW or as time consuming as FFXIV. Trion stated in the most recent podcast the rare recipes will only be attainable through end-game raiding, so that will help create a niche for certain crafted items. As for gathering, let's hope they keep it short and simple.

Keeping high level recipes to a minimum is good for the economy or you will get a flood of items.

Swweeeeet post. I was wondering about this for a while thanks for the info! Crafting is a great way to pass time when everythings slow and you're sick of grinding dungeons/mobs.

Hoping for there to be some sort of alchemy/enchantment professions as well. Or is that not really considered crafting? If so is there any info on non-crafting professions?

In MMOs i usually like to gather items either for our guild crafters or to sell and make some money.

I do like the fact that the node gives up what it has on one hit and find it interesting that crafting xp and adventure xp will be the same.
