Worries of RiftFollow

What are some of your worries concerning Rift?

I for one am very nervous to see how the actual combat is. I would prefer a smooth combat technique such as World of Warcraft compared to Warhammer Online that has a clunky and unresponsive system.

I worry about Aion syndrome. That the hype will override the actual gameplay, and that we might end up disappointed. However, if the team strives to actually COMPLETE the product before shipping it, it should be just fine. A lot of great ideas have gone into this game, so we'll just have to wait and see.

As I've stated before investors wouldn't have dropped $150 million to the developers to get this game going right if they didn't show them something that looked worthwhile. Assuming the game's community doesn't go downhill I'm sure it will be fine.

As long as they get the coding sorted out before release and get the servers up to scratch i am hoping its no where near as bad as warhammer online.

I do think WAR is a great game if only they could sort the server stability out im looking forward to these rift battles hoping there similar to the big RVR fights in WAR.

But worried at the same time the infrastructure wont be able to handle it and let the game down.

One of the biggest worries is providing enough and diverse content to keep people interested, even at launch. Avoid the pointless and mindless grinding and Rift will be successful. There isnt a lot of competition out there at the moment either. A good start can make this game a powerhouse.

I'm worried they will fall victim to WoW-ing themselves down. It seems the newest trend in MMO's to dumb down anything that was remotely unique about the game to appease and attract a larger audience.

Wow-ification is definitely a large concern. If I wanted a game to be like wow, I would go play wow. Obviously since I'm here, I don't want that so. That's not to say there aren't great features present there, but the trick is to extract the best, and ditch the rest.

One big concern I have is micro-transactions worming their way into the game, similar to what happened to EQ2. A large reason I quit EQ2 was the increasing prevalence of the marketplace. It just takes away from the game when crap like that is around.

I'm 100% worries free. Trion World is a nice company who cares about their community and is always pending on the feedback they give. They are really close to the subscribers and I think everything is gonna be allright. Is I am wrighting this, I am finger-crossed and touching wood. I really DO want Rift to be a great game. And I'm sure I'll play it.

Maybe the only worry (if we could call it worry) is their marketing system. Since Rift isn't appearing in loads of banners such as other MMOs, so I wonder how will they deal with these. Anyway I prefer smaller comminuties than hughe ones.

Everything about people flavours :)

:P Yeah, I mean, if Rift fails (which I DON'T think so), it's not going to be the first MMO which has a great concept and it's a great game but because of marketing issues and low poblated community it has to shut their servers down. Or their servers are running out of players, such as WAR or Vanguard: SoH.

P.S: Excuse my English :(

No worries! I tease because I like. I am sure you speak much clearer English than I could even attempt at your native language. *huggles*

I don't think Rift will fail by any measure. It has too large of a playerbase looking at it right now. As long as it is actually a finished product when released, it will be very successful. 90% of MMOs fail because they get rushed out the door.

On a different note, everything I hear lately indicates SW:TOR is headed for a huge failure. I lost faith in that game as soon as I found out mythic was making it(Yes, Mythic. Not Bioware. They are just using the name.) A shame too, because it had such potential. We'll see though, in my opinion it has a chance if it gets delayed into 2012.

I'm not even a little worried. Rift is going to be awesome and thus far I haven't noticed and major flaws in it as an MMO structurally.

I didn't even think about WoW-ification until you guys started talking about it though o_0
