So in most games it goes a little something like this...

Warriors > Rouges
Rogues > Mages
Mages > Warriors
Clerics > Nothing

With all of the possible soul combinations in Rift do you forsee this pattern changing?
Rift Planes Of Telara
Kinsume - Level 0
Defiant Bahmi Reaver/Paladin/Void Knight Tank
Guild : eXotic Occult

There is no pattern in pvp tbh since 1 player will always outskill or outgear other player + builds will make huge difference in rift i think so you wont be tied to lets say tank cause you can balance your char with all subclass options.

I agree with Shahra. In rift there are so many possibilities within a class that you will never have the basic healer, tank, dps and cc class in PvP. On the other hand I will assume that there will be main healers on the battlefield to help allies survive. But I will think that people will build there healers for PvP giving them enough skills to survive certain attacks long enough for the others to come and help.

About that "Cleric > Nothing" don't forget that there is the inquisitor soul which will be a melee dps - healer type which i think will also excell vs rogues !!

There are always Pro's and Con's of every class and often depends on the very skill of the player. At least I've found skill and gear more pertinent than the class of player during my years of PVPing. You sometimes have a class while leveling that seems more overpowered than the next but hopefully at end game they will be balanced.

Agreed on the original statement that most classes do have a nemesis that can more easily take them down.
Example: Melee versus Ranged. It's hard for melee to kill a ranged if he can never touch the ranged. Like snares, crowd control but also limiting the use of cool down helps in those cases as well.

Currently Playing: Aion - (Kera - Cleric, Rains - Ranger and Calysta - Chanter on Zikel)

Previous MMO's: WOW (Previous Hardcore Raider and PvPer), Warhammer (DOK and WE), Guild Wars, LOTR, AOC and EQ.

Other PC Games: Dragon Origins, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Borderlands

On average this is probably true, but I've heard one of the warrior souls will be a sort of anti-mage, and one of the rogues will be a tank, etc etc. If you're playing on a pvp server and are having trouble being ganked by a countering class, you can change souls to something that is (hopefully) more specialized to defend against them. Who knows, maybe there'll even be a mage that can be built to survive a rogue. Wouldn't that be crazy?

I don't play on a PvP server in EQ2, but I play a lot of BG's and duels. Clerics are pretty good, easy to keep health / mana up and good damage if you know what you're doing. Clerics will be interesting in Rift, outstanding survivability and meh dps vs good dps and little survivability. You go ahead and make the call, I'll wait for beta 3.

I've always been against hard counters in MMOs. In other words I don't think a player of one class should be able to beat a player of another class, both with equal skills, every time. I think all classes should have equal opportunity to beat all classes. For some reason most game developers never do this.
