Defiant vs GuardianFollow

Defiant vs Guardian. Looking at the lore and the classes available, which one are you going to play? Which one do you think is going to be the most popular? And..who are the good guys? Personally, I get the feeling that Guardians might be the most popular faction as it has the most "familiar" races in it. I've seen it in WoW before BEs and I've seen it in Aion, and I am guessing RIFT will be no different. However, the Defiant lore so far is pretty boss, and I'm already deadset on the Defiant only Nightblade being my first soul.

Easy:
I will roll both. Defiant first more than likely. =P
For my Defiant characters, Guardians will be the bad guys and vice versa! *evil laugh* XD

There is no "good" side really. Just a difference in opinion. As far as which one will be prefered, I know on the official forums the consensus has been that the Defiant will be the favored faction. That might change though once beta starts and people get to experience both factions. Personally I am on the fence and probably wont make my decision until closer to release.

As far as racials are concerned I think Defiant has the upper hand. In terms of Lore Guardians are very close minded and that bothers me, however Jedi's are closed minded and I'm drawn to them over the sith counterparts. I'm a big technology fan though so I'll probably go defiant.

One of my guildies said something funny a few months ago when we were looking at Rift for the first time. He said this time I want to play the "blue side" (meaning Guardian). I think it's funny how so many games with 2 playable factions can be associated with red and blue.

That said, I think early on Defiant will have a slight edge on player population. I'm not sure why, it's just a gut feeling.

It will vary from server to server as more open. If you look at the populations in WoW they tended to be pretty even, however some were horde favored while others were alliance favored. This will end up no differently unless there are restrictions put in place keeping the population differences from getting to crazy.

For me factions don't really matter in the sense of RP. I'm not a RP (I do respect people that can stay in that role). So for me believing in the strenght of gods or technology really doesn't matter at all.

Our guild is leaning towards Guardians, propably PvE server. So the unbalance won't be that big of an impact. I'm also hoping that the few people we have less on the guardian side will have some benefits in the early stage of the game. Like is you need to gather something or kill certain mobs. You will have 10 people waiting with you instead of 20 (wishfull thinking), so less chance of KS.

As far as lore goes, Defiant seems to have the edge because there is more info about them and a lot of the more "hardcore" guilds are attracted to the most fleshed out and the most rebellious side. Add in the fact that they also tend to be the ones recruiting early, it makes sense that Defiant would edge out in release. The whole "past vs future" thing with the lore, muddies the waters as to who the good guys are as well.

I went with Asmodians for Aion first however I'm likely to choose Guardians because from what I see and using Guy In Real Life G.I.R.L. ima pick a Female High Elf.

I think I am leaning defiant myself just for the pure fact they have technomagic as a basis.
I have a love for technomages so this really fits in well with me.
YET guardians have that defender of the weak, that stand up for what is right no matter what aspect I love to have too.
Hard choice. I am happy I can play both in the betas and decide as the game gets closer.

I interpreted the lore as the Guardians are the heretics who keep their faith even when all hope seems lost. Sounds delusional to me, I'll lobby my guild for Defiant but at the moment I'm losing the vote.

Uhm... I love the landscapes and environment of the Guardians, and porbably will play them for this reason. But you also have to think that this kind of MMOs which have a low marketing investments and just gamers keep an eye on them (I mean, ask a anybody about WoW, and then about Mortal, or Darkfall, probably a non-MMO gamer won't recognize the last two), maybe these people are fed up of Elves and Dwarves and they're looking for something different and new.

That's why I think both factions will be really balanced :)

I think it depends on what my guild favors. However, I have never been a big fan of technology in fantasy MMO's, dare I admit that I don't even like rifles in my fantasy MMO's. With that said, if my guild goes defiant, then I will most certainly go defiant, and just I will make due lol. I do like the Guardians in that they are more traditional, with a good ol' God fearing sense of being. But to say one is evil and one is good is biased. They are both hoping to accomplish the same goal. They are both trying to save Telon from the planar invasions, so why would one be good or evil?

I think I will wait and decided after these first two betas.
After all the first beta is defiant, the second is guardian, the third is the only one you get to choose.

I think at this point i am still on the fence i could go either way i guess it comes down to me getting to char creation and finding a race that i want to play as for my time in Rift. Also depends what way my guild leans.

I prefer the defiant for lore, as religious zealot irk me. But Which I choose will come down to how much I can customise the characters.

Defiant may have a fairly enjoyable backstory, but I'm not liking the models I've seen thus far. The exact opposite is the case with the guardians, I love the elves and the mathosians, or what I've seen of them.

Time will tell.

I think between the third through the sixth I will play Defiant. Hey, wait a sec, I see what he did there. That's the only one we can play in the first beta. But seriously...

I will probably go Guardian, and only because I feel they will put more work into the "good guys". I know that sounds crazy, and maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that games like WoW put more effort into the "Light" side of things. When quests are broken, or if the starting areas just aren't as cool, it always seems like it's the "bad guys" side the takes the brunt of the badness. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy or just full of it, but that's how's it felt to me in the past.

But since the first stage of beta is Deviant, maybe they are putting equal effort into every aspect of the game. I hope so. After beta I'm sure I will have a better idea of which way I want to go.

Defiant because they use technology ..they are some sort of technomages ;)
Guardians are too "friendly" ..too protected by the gods :)

But I'm sure every experience (guardian od defiant) will be unique.

But definitely I'll choose Defiant! :)

I think the populations on servers will be balanced based on the amount of overall servers. IE 50 servers Guardian favored 50 servers Defiant favored. When looking at servers by themselves, I think that most servers will be unbalanced, leaning more towards one faction. If that makes sense to anybody. I pretty much always go with the more "rebellious" or evil race, but for some odd reason im kinda feelin' Guardian.

I'm gonna reserve my judgement until after both betas.

Leaning towards guardian right now, like a dev said during an interview, being "chosen by the gods" sounds like a lot more fun than technomagickal. Also, it fits my inquisitor a lot better. :)

I too am leaning towards Guardian, simply because alot of my guildies are planning on playing dwarves lol. I'll definatly wait till after beta to make a final decision though. Defiant does seem better for Rogues and Mages though.
