TO DYE OR NOT TO DIE?Follow

I read that we will have the option of dying our gear. Has anyone else seen this? I'd like to hear more on it. I'm not sure if it is a profession or not, but a link would be appreciated. ;)
Since I do RP on occasion this is exciting, but even just keeping my stuff looking good will be fun, IMO.
Thanks in advance! <3

I love the idea of dyes in game. There is nothing more annoying than getting a new sweet piece of uber gear, putting it on your character and realizing that is renders PINK or something ridiculous! At minimum appearance slots would be great, with custom dyes as the best option!

Why do we have to be restircted to dyes. I think we should be able to change our appearance and colour at any point without costs. I know there are economys in games and realism but they need to seperate life sims and games. Some dyes are expensive and to fight and grind for 12 hours to change the colour of my pants seems a bit agitateing. Cosmetics are important to alot fo people and instead of restricting appearence they should let us go wild and concetrate on the really important stuff like armour skills unlocking new areas ect. I know people like to earn these things but I think grinding for some items should be redefined

I loved having the ability to dye my gear in WAR. I made a point to have all my gear follow a nice template based on my spec or feelings that day. I would love to have that option here. In game currency will be reasonable in my opinion but I don't want it to be a micro transaction.

I like this idea overall. It's the thought of those few who choose to run around in neon pink/yellow/green that makes me leary. ;)

Anything that adds another layer of customization to a character is a welcome addition IMO. Eventually many players will be running around wearing the top tier raiding gear available. It would sure be nice if everyone didn't look exactly the same.

Edit - spelling

They will do it one of two ways...

Way 1 : Like vindictus where you craft or find an item and there are certain color combinations that item can be.

Way 2 : They will have a special item you can find, buy or craft in order to change your armor a specific color.

I hope they have a DYE system setup. I remember reading about GW2 new dye sytem and the fact there are 4 dyable layers per piece of armor and drooling at the thoughbt of the customization available.

Gear modification options are always welcome. I thought Aion pulled it off fairly well, creating a secondary market for skins from items that would otherwise be useless. In my opinion the downside is that it lends itself for microtransactions (selling of items with crappy stats but awesome looks). However, I see no reason why dying items should not be permitted.

Dyes can really stimulate the economy though... I remember when Red dyes in lotro were 1gold each and were the premium colour because you had to farm these lvl 45 lizards that dropped the component once in a blue moon. That was back when the max was 50... They changed the system around a little bit so the items to craft dyes were easier to obtain and thus made the dyes cheaper... I miss expensive dye :(

Dying was a great aspect of Dark Age of Camelot, and would definitely love to see some armor customization in Rift.

A dye system is good. It just gets overwhelming when you have in Region chat every selling white or black dye because it is so rare. If they put a decent balance to it so everyone can customize I think it would be sweet.

Anything to make myself different from others would be nice. I hate when I get that piece of gear I've been waiting for to drop for weeks, and then it's like... yeah, i have what everyone else has now. I like that GW2 has a built in way to change the dye job for all armor in the character window. I think this is the way to go, but the least Rift should do is give us the option of using dyes. Anyone remember how rare black dye was in Ultima Online? That stuff sold for bank!

I hope this happens. I had a lot of fun with this in Star Wars Galaxies in the classic days. Seeing someone run by in full Pink composite armor was always a joyful sight.
