So Zam is supplied with a bunch of closed beta keys which they are supposed to give away... Instead of the lottery system they make us post on the forums. Which is usually too much trouble for most people to be bothered with. i.e. Me... But unless we really want to try Rift early or we really have nothing better to do they help out themselves and the game because the keys don't just go out to anybody. They get more people to set up accounts on their site and the game itself gets people who really want it to be a good game and those who have way too much time on their hands and will find all the potential bugs...

Though it sucks that people who have spent 6+ hours on the forum yesterday are getting the keys vs people like us who have other things we have to be doing, I do agree with one thing that is coming from this; a lottery ends with wasted keys. There are quite a few people who will submit to a beta lottery, get a key, then not play. It's happened oh-so many times in the past...

So, with the, "if you really want it" system, (Which I'm calling it from now on) they actually see who cares about the game and thus get to hand out the keys to those people accordingly. This will atleast increase their tester-to-player ratio and decrease all those wasted keys. There still will be wasted keys, (people redeem them and not play) but atleast this will greatly increase their player base...

So yeah, sucks that many of us aren't getting them, and I'm worried now that I won't be getting one (simply because I don't have time to post on the forums all day like some of the others) But I can atleast share my thoughts and concerns legitimately and hope that I may end up with one. :)

Well there were some people with a mere 15 posts who got keys so I'm sure Zam is doing this rather fairly.

Yeah like me I posted very little bits last night and this morning and ended up in the first round of winners. I barely had 20 post when I won. So they are doing this really fairly. I do not think it matter how much you post but the quality of the post you do make. They want to make sure you are the right person to get the key and not some on trolling every thread to get a high post count.

It's free, all they ask for is time. Their goal is to get an active forum base going for Rift as well as to promote their wiki. Hence the contest being the way it is. Some of the people who won only have like 20 posts since its been up, that doesn't even take less than an hour to put some useful information up. Sorry its not as easy as copying someone else's answer to a question real quick or copy and pasting a key before someone else can, but get over it and go do a different contest then.

I'm not against people who only post twenty times getting a key or anything I make no statement whatsoever in this thread excepting, "Wow this is a brilliant idea and I want to know if you think so too!"

I think it is a pretty sound business move on ZAM's part. It gets people use to coming to his forum as well as raising hit advertising revenue on a hits per day basis.

Don't worry about it Kinsume, it is really tough to get a tone from text and I just got lucky from my last post :) in this thread.
