Worried About ... Rift Beta vs. WoW CompetitionFollow

I'm talking primarily beta. The first beta test phase ends 1 day before Cataclysm arrives, but what about the other phases. We don't have dates yet, but they will obviously be going on soon after Cataclysm comes out. I know we on these boards are going to say that we will play Rift beta 100%, but the truth is that a lot of us will be spending some time in the new WoW. At least for nothing else but to see how to old world has changed.

I'm not into WoW nearly as much as I used to be, but I'm still interesting in seeing the changes. So I was just wondering what everyone thinks the impact will be on the testing phases of Rift, where we as players are suppose to be finding as many bugs and exploits as possible to make this game even better than it will be, with the release of the new WoW expansion?

I can honestly say I wont be playing Cata. I in truth have never owned a WoW acc, and played on a friends for a matter of five minutes. So Cata has no pull on me at all

A lot of people interested in Rift are just sick and tired of playing WoW. That is a 6 year old game and even if you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. Those that seriously want to help Rift will used their invites to look for bugs. Those that are in it for the thrills will try to log in, log out after the first crash, and go back to WoW. By the time Rift is ready for release, the novelty from Cataclysm will have worn out. I doubt the expansion will have any effect on the testing numbers.

I don't believe so many people are still playing WOW. I got bored after a while. It WAS good, but now the engine is out-dated and the game mechanism, even if they try to make it more appealing, is still boring. You don't get proud of no achievements in that game to be honest, except when you own an item others don't, that you grinded for months. It's a massive time grinder where you do horse rides 3/4 of the time to get to 1/10th of the fun.

And then there's people like me who never got into WoW, either because they didn't like it or didn't have the money.

Without reading the body of the thread, or the other posts here, I'm just gonna say.

WoW is overdone, overexerted and can only die from here on out. Cataclysm was a desperate attempt by Blizzard to keep the series going long enough for them to start on their next big hit MMORPG. After all, making 9 figures a month isn't enough for them!

I don't play WoW but it will take some of the Beta testers away naturally. That's just competition in general and with it being the biggest MMO.
