My first MMO was the original EQ. I got into it around the time the second expansion was being released, so the community and gameplay were still stellar and worth paying for. After Dark Age of Camelot came out, I immediately jumped to that and stayed for around four years. I'd have been with DAoC forever if they didn't bring out ToA. Hmm, after that it was EQ2 for a year, then I went to WoW where I've been for 6 years now. I alternated between WoW and Lord of the Rings Online for a year (after beta testing it in closed beta), but eventually gave up LOTRO to stay with WoW. The game was pretty, but just not what I was looking for. I've also briefly tried Aion, Lineage 2, and Warhammer.
WoW - Raspberrytea, 85, holy Paladin
DAoC - Irrenoen, 50, Bard

I played WoW at release, and probably a good three years of gametime in between then and now. I tried out Eve Online, but it never really struck me as being that fantastic, probably because the world seemed too big compared to the number of players who actually played. I also played City of Heroes/Villains for perhaps a year or so, just to try out some different mechanics.

I've been an avid gamer for sometime and just to name a few MMO's that i've played through the years...Ultima Online, EQ 8mo, SWG 2 yrs 8mo, EQ2 2 1/2 years, AOC 10mo., DAOC 6mo. WoW 3 1/2 Years (waste of life), WAR little over 1yr 6mos- became burned out and change of life status. Currently playing LOTRO but will change games when RIFT comes out.

Also played quite of FPS games that date back to the original QUAKE but the topic is referring to only OLD MMO's!!!

1. Wow
2. War
3. Eve
4. Back to Wow
5. Back to WaR
6. Back to eve
7. Back to WoW
8. back to War
9. back to Eve

after that i pretty much just gave up on MMO's. I refuse to give more money to blizzard. War could be great if it wasn't mostly a ghost town. Eve is the best game on the market atm, but my alliance broke up :(.

Been MMO free for about a year, and I seem to have kept my g/f about that long. coincidence?

I'm hoping rift will be good enough to knock me back off the wagon.

Mine started pretty recent but its been one ride so far. Sadly my virgin MMO isnt really the one i would love to brag about.

1. Pristontale (Korean MMO, yeah its a grind, i know)
2. Risk Your Life (Yeah, another one of those korean grinders, but they had something awesome, twitch based combat!)
3. WoW
4. EQ2
6. DDO
7. AoC
8. WAR (a game that i felt passionately about, but sadly.. history)
9. Aion (played for 1 week, then passed my account to my wife to play)
10. Back to WoW again (after 2 years of wandering between games and MMOs)

I am looking at Rift for my number 11. It better dont disappoint!!

Ha....I don't even know when I started playing MMO's it was so long ago.

The list has to start somewhere with Astonia III. A simple top-down Diablo 1 like MMO.

Then a whole lot of the Korean grind fests like Knight Online, Tantra, Silkroad...

I got into mainstream gaming when I got into the Risk Your Life closed beta along with Lineage 2. From there I migrated to FFXI, WoW, Aion, LOTRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, EQ2...I've pretty much played every major MMO release in the last 3-4 years, including the atrocious FFXIV that was just recently released.

Okay, I will show my age. Started with MUDs before there were games with pictures - playing and writing zones and code for several years. Was there for day one of EQI and loved every minute of it. Beta'd expansions, EQ2 then played EQ2 for years with a break to beta and briefly play Vanguard. Tried lots of other games - DAoC, LOTR, WoW (ugh), Aion, and probably a few more, but never really liked them. Am hoping to find a new place that feels like an old home.

Let's see, I'm really going to date myself with this:

1. Secrets of Yserbius/Fates of Twinion on the old Sierra Network
2. Neverwinter Nights (back when it was on AOL in the mid-1990s)
3. Dark Sun:Crimson Sands on Total Entertainment Network (I was also a guide for TEN)
4. Meridian 59
5. Everquest
6. World of Warcraft
7. Everquest 2
8. Vanguard
9. LOTRO (still playing)
10. Everquest 2 Extended (still playing)

In between I've played various MUDs and MUSHes when I didn't have a regular MMO to play.

I guess I should finally chime in here. I'll include my takes on some of them.

1) Diablo-I think its the original MMO. Chat client+Instanced dungeon, what else did you need back then, and it was really hard to hit level cap. I can't even calculate the nights I stayed up looking for that perfect loot drop.
2) Everquest
3) Anarchy Online-I still have a soft spot in my heart for this game. I'm still waiting for a good scifi MMO to hit.
3) Diablo 2 - See #1.
4) SWG-Beta only. Was sorely disappointed at actual launch.
5) EQ2-Still playing. Will continue to play even post-Rift. Hey, why not make an EQ2X account? Its free!
7) Atlantica Online and some other f2p.
8) Eve Online- Still love the freeform character development of Eve. I'd love to see it in a fantasy game. Skills based on weapon types and magic that accumulate over time? A completely gear driven game with no levels where you simply decide what kind of weapon or magic you want to use then and master that and can switch it up at will? Sounds like the next big thing if you ask me.

Currently playing: EQ2(AB)

Started with Ultima game to date IMO; no game will ever give me the same feeling I used to get when I would lure a noob back to my house by offering to give him all of my stuff because I was quitting and my brother would just be hiding inside in the corner with a halberd. i would grant them access to the house and open a chest to make it look like I was getting stuff out then WHAMM my bro would just two hitter quitter whoever they were and we'd get the lootz. we would do that all day and make bank, everyone hated us hahaha.

Ended with Aion.... another wow clone-ish game...except you get wings...booooorrrrringgggggg. quit after two weeks

everything in between has been a short stepping stone to the next, with WoW as a major exception of course... but mostly everybody's been hooked to WoW...that's a given

Started in MUDs... went to EQ1 for a brief period, then to DAoC.

DAoC was very fun and I stuck wiht it for years, but I was ultimately drawn away from it by the smoothness of WoW.

I beta tested WoW and played it quite avidly for a number of years. I left it briefly for WAR, which was a total disappointment at release, so I returned to WoW, conquered WoTLK and all the content I cared to... and then sat doing nothing for a couple of months. Boredom set in; I quit. For good.

I went back to WAR, where I played for most of this summer... but I didn't really enjoy the endgame.

I did some research, found out about RIFT, and I'm pumped. Bring it on! :D
