UPDATE 2: I will be announcing the winners later this afternoon!

With such a vibrant and creative community, we're bound to have a few artists out there. We would love to see some user fan art! Submit your creations and I'll choose the top 10 on Wednesday, December 1st 2010. Get a VIP key just in time for the first beta event to begin! Smiley: smile

Note: DO NOT use or modify copyrighted images or others work. Not only is it a *really* bad idea, but you can potentially get in hot water over it.

Please PM a link of your entries to me.

This is an *art* contest. More specifically, a fan art contest. A question about drawing an artistic nude would be a more sensible question, but drawing an artistic nude does not involve a camera phone and a mirror.

As far as time it wasn't too bad since most of the touch-ups were digital, 3-4 hours. I think its called sunburst, i just made the fade around 100ish so that it looks more embedded and made it wrap better.

Did he also tell you to remove his copyright notice from the bottom of the image? I can see where it was "scrubbed" off.

BTW, here is Josh's site, with the image. http://www.elfwood.com/~jsin/Old-Grizzly-Dwarf.2871430.html

again, refer to my previous post, i had permission to both use and modify it. He's literally standing behind me laughing at you as we speak. You trolls will go to any extent to win at the internet and he didn't even make the image in 2000 he drew it in 2003 at a D&D convention in a booth when we were talking about an idea for a character... That logo was added by someone else digitally. Which i personally find hilarious and yes i had permission to remove it provided that i modified it from the original and the ONLY reason that he asked me to modify it was because he used it for a college art project 2 years ago.

[ANNOUNCER:] FINNISH HIM!!!

Hi Orlan,

I don't know anyone by the user name "Coppertone187".

I have, however, granted usage rights of that particular dwarf picture to the owner at http://www.lonedwarfgames.com/ I know his real name as well.
I'm guessing that Coppertone187 probably isn't the same person, but who knows.

I usually don't freak out about people using my art for non-commercial purposes (like a character portrait or something). So if this is just a friendly art contest, and he's not claiming he drew the dwarf, then it's no big deal. I definitely appreciate you asking me about it, however.

-Josh

my reply to him :

Hey and thank for your swift answer..

He claims hes your room mate and he had personal permission from you to produce the picture i linked to in order to win this art contest.. he started out by claiming he did the entire drawing but when he was called out he stated that you and him live together and own some sort of a wedding photography studio..
regardless, as he didnt draw the picture im pretty sure hes not eligible to win the contest for just throwing a few overlays on it... but thats not really up to me im just researching if hes talking the truth or if hes lying to get the first prize by doing no real effort.. cause that drawing is amazing :)

// Orlan

his reply

I see.

Yes, I can verify that those claims are false. :)

Thanks again,

Josh

Does this mean shopped entries are allowed? If that is included I would like to submit this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/dthunder137/Entry.jpg

The characters were screen shotted from Riftgame.com, which took awhile to figure out which pose/timing to get it.
The background came from concept art.
The "special effects" for the casters I did myself since the originals were removed with the original backgrounds.

I completely understand if this is invalid, I just figured I would give it a shot because I can't draw stick figures right to save my life.

I thought this art contest was something where we were supposed to create the art ourselves, not just get permission for someone else's work, modify it a little, and submit it as our own work. I know I'm starting from scratch, glancing at the pictures on the official Rift site to get the look I want, but copying nothing. It will be my own original work.

My thoughts on this are as follows

1 - Fan Art is defines by WordIQ.com are Fan art is a type of artwork that is based on a person or item that the artist did not create. Some fan art revolves around books, a popular type being the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. Other fan art creators enjoy illustrating scenes and characters from movies, comics, or nearly anything else.

Fan art is, strictly speaking, a violation of the original creators' copyright, but since it is usually intended as a tribute the copyright holders tend to tolerate it as long as the fan does not try to make money out of it.

Defined from WIKI

Fan art or fanart is artwork that is based on a character, costume, item, or story that was created by someone other than the artist. The term, while it can apply to art done by fans of characters from books, is usually used to refer to art derived from visual media such as comics, movies or video games. In addition to traditional paintings and drawings, fan artists may also create web banners, avatars, or web-based animations, as well as photo collages, posters, and artistic representation of movie/show/book quotes.

Usually, it refers to fan labor artworks by amateur artists, or artists who are unpaid for their fan creations--so that, for example, professional comic adaptations of the Star Wars films would not be considered fanart while a version done by an unaffiliated fan would be. The distinctions here cannot always be finely drawn and the actual status of particular works can often fall into a gray area.

My belief in this is if YOU did not do this YOURSELF it should not count. If it was someone elses work that you modded for use in this contest I don't think it should count.

Something like the digital photoshop another user has submitted i am not sure should count or not I leave that up to Kaasha to decided.

Photoshop'd images should be allowed, as long as you put serious effort into it. Be creative don't just copy and paste. Let everyone know where you get your stock images too guys. Share the resources around :)

P.S Download the fansite kit from Riftgame.com tonnes of neat images there.

Woohoo!
I got the "People" from
http://www.riftgame.com/en/classes/index.php
I used the classes some guildies had picked out, if you wait patiently they do an animation... screen shotting at the right time wasn't too hard.

The background is

And Red is from

Very well said, Coreen.

As with the story contest, submitting art of *any* kind that is copyrighted, stolen, etc. will not get you anywhere. It's disappointing that folks have stooped to this.
