Hey I was wondering if anyone happened to stumble upon any information about traveling vast distances? For example in World of Warcraft if you needed to travel a far distance, you could just go to a town and hop on a flying mount with 400% increased speed rather than just taking your ride on mount for a half hour. It cut down travel time greatly, providing more time for fun. If anyone has any information about this please feel free to post, im very curious. Thanks in advance.

Rift will have various modes of transportation. From what I read about it... they don't want transportation to eat lot of time.... So I suppose u can walk from point A to point B ( its a seamless world...) or u can teleport, use a mount or something like that...

Yea, I was aware of the mount option, but I think it would take a longggg time to go from lets say the north most zone to the southern most zone. Teleporting sounds sweet though!

There are always a ton of options for traveling ingame. Rift won't be any different. Just don't expect to teleport throughout the world at level 1.

Transportation refers to a way of travelling across the world in Rift: Planes of Telara.

Walking
There is a high probability that travelling on foot at a fairly leisurely pace will be the main means of travel. There will be an option to jump in game as well.

Mounts
Mounts provide a faster method of personal travel.

Porticulums
Porticulums allow the player to bind their souls at various locations throughout Telara. Players can recall to their bound location using a yet to be determined ability.

Land Mount

It is not known if there are any level or other requirements to acquire and then ride a land mount. So far three different mounts have been seen; their pictures are on the right. The middle right mount is based on a prehistoric mammal.[1], and called a Yarnosaur.[2] The new information released in April 2010 shows that horses are also in. The speed increase for land mounts is as following: Lvl 20 gives a 60% speed increase, lvl 40 gives a 90% speed increase, and lvl 50 gives a 110% speed increase.[2]

* Horse mounts
* Najmok mounts
* Yarnosaur mounts

Flying Mount

It is not known if there will be flying mounts.
Mounted Combat

It is not known if there will be mounted combat.

Porticulums
Players can bind their souls at the various Porticulums located throughout Telara. Although we don't know as of yet the locations of all the Porticulums, it is very likely that they will only be found in NPC cities and not in the wild. Players have two choices when interacting with a Porticulum Master, they can either bind their souls at the current location for a nominal fee of 3platinum 70gold (price is subject to change and may vary depending on location) or choose to teleport to other Porticulums. In order to teleport to another location, players must first unlock those Porticulums by interacting with the respective Porticulum Masters.[1]

From an interview I read, flying mounts were a possibility for the future. Probably will come in a future patch or expansion, but definitely not on release.

Hopefully Trion will have something different than the over-played Griffons for flying mounts..
