I think doing a staged beta like this is a great way for your subscribers to sample things before they commit to a class , player race, and soul trees. It is also a great way to learn the ropes of the individual parts of the game like buying a second soul tree and spending the points the exact same way , and losing 30 gold he he that was me. Also I completed a level 40 collection from the death Rifts because I was seriously 1st place in 98% of the rifts I went into This game is great!.. ok enough **** smooching, but seriously I am unemployed at the moment and I only have rpgs and I only have my computer and I seriously out of all the rpg's that I have to date (I could name them but seriously I have every MMORPG and this was one of the smoothest betas ever! a lot like dragon age origins set to super high on a 1920 x 1080 hdtv series 6 ! it was seamless! I got higher FPS rates on your beta than I do in eq2 on any day. The only better I get in eq2 is when I am in an instance alone. It really put me into the setting and into the game! ok I will stop now. Feel pity on my relentless bantering ? Please ! praise Rift Myrleen says I would like to be a high elf in my next life hopefully being born December 17th 2010!

Beautiful! Gorgeous! Fabulous! Wondrous! Incredible! Magical! Stupendous! Ridiculously Courageous! Inspiring! Pretty! Dimensional! Multifaceted Game-play! Cadenza of Colors!

Seriously this game is a Jewel!

1. please don't brag about your performance.. especially in pve, you are 1. breaking nda, and 2. comming off stupid if you think getting 1st in a rift a few times is superior play.

2. you might want to start on some sort of medication, and or get a job and start contributing to society.

3. hostility aside welcome =) good to see a new face.

I know the OP doesn't sound too.. uh.. sane but cut him a bit of slack. Given first hand experience with long term unemployment I have to say that sometimes you need to have some kind of timekiller to keep yourself from going stir-crazy.

Your enthusiasm is oddly..tiring. But I applaud your wonderful experience in the beta. :D I can't wait to log on the 17th myself, though my husband and I are already definitely buying the game at release. We've been playing WoW for 6 years now and with Cataclysm's release (the newest expansion), I can see how dated everything is all the better and how very dull the game has gotten. Rift is like a breath of fresh air, even if parts of it are basically the same recycled bits of other MMORPGs.

Being a housewife in a small town, with no children yet I might add, I can relate to the monotony of being trapped indoors for days with little to do but play MMOs.

Agreed, the 17th cannot get here soon enough. Since beta 1 I can't stop thinking about playing Rift.

I know what you mean. I find a lot of things make me think about it, like playing DAO for some reason.

the more i read these forums, the more i doubt this game will be suitable for me.

it seems like people just want an extension of wow.

i have never played or have been interested in that game, in fact any resemblance of that game makes me embarrassed that i enjoy computer games.

when beta testing, i felt like it was like wow since the game held your hand the whole time and you could get to lvl 20 without dying once if you didnt go into any rifts that werent too high.

positive note: i really hope this game is nothing like wow and everyone can find something they enjoy (and would pay for) in the game.

from now on, i am going to compare it to the best mmo of all time.. EQ

amen

I find not dying before 20 to be an odd way to define challenge level. In all about 20 years i've played MMOs I can count on one hand the number of times I died before 20 and all of them were from stupidity. I honestly doubt anyone who has played an MMO before dies pre 20 in any MMO unless they just do something really dumb.

Strong opinions each way. Everyone plays a game differently, and games work different. I don't think death before 20 is a quantifier in either way personally. Let people play how they want and you play how you want, then everyone is happy.

because you say that in no MMO you die before 20.. unless you do something stupid.

also you say you've been playing MMO's for 20 years.... what games did you play?

was this pre internet? or just 7kb dialup?

secondly. older MMO's were much more difficult.. i played EQ back in '99 and getting to 15 was a feat, let alone dying countless times before level 20 with countless corpse runs thanks to them pesky vengeful soloists.

I think if you haven't played a game before and are just generally excited about playing it and not watching where you're going and having old fashioned fun with it, you're probably gonna die before 20 at least once. From my experiences, anyway. Doesn't hurt to be careful though :D Unless the game is generally built to provide a challenge, then I would suppose you'd die a bunch, before 20.

Games played...long list. Started with MUDs whose names I can no longer remember. First graphical one was NWN on AOL. Played a lot of stuff between that and EQ like The Realm. Makes you realize how close to old as dirt you are when you can't remember the names of games while still having visuals in your head. And yes this started in the days when 14.4kbps modems were so fast that I remember drooling when I saw the box in the store.

I died pre 20 in EQ, UO, NWN and others whose names I forget but in every case I can remember thinking "If I was a bit smarter that wouldn't have happened."

Anyway, the main point I probably failed in making a few posts ago was that early deaths in MMOs don't happen to experienced players particularly often.

no one will die pre lvl 20 now a days, its so casual friendly ;)

No really, if you use your brain, take a reasonable amount of time killing the mobs, i do not think anyone will die - and still it varies from game to game and person to person. but like "xx" (cant remember name now) said, in eq it was a feat to reach lvl 15.
