I noticed that Rift is now up on the steam store on the coming soon tab and the release date is spring of 2011. I hope its not releasing in March or April.

I hope not either, I'm actually hoping for an earlier release... but I'm thinking that might be wishful thinking ;)

I think thats awesome they are integrateing it with steam. wish other mmo's besides the cheeseball ones utilized it. Just means a bigger market to advertise to.

This is a really good news, because like tkizzle said, it just means a bigger market to advertise to.

I'm glad steam is a option though I personally will not use it. I like having a box set to look at and place with all my other "collectibles" lol.

Any game that can be gotten through Steam is aces in my book. I love the digital library aspect of it...when my hardrive recently crashed it was just a matter of waiting for my games to re-download rather than having to root around for disks and authentication keys. Pus the fact that I use steam pretty much exclusively for IM'ing, if Rift is Steam-compatible I won't have to run it in window mode just to respond to messages.

blah... steam is crap IMO..... I don't have a legit reason but I played CS for 10 years so I am kinda biased.. 5 casual years, 5 years on a LAN team completely destroying almost every amateur league. The coming of STEAM was the death of the CS I miss and love.. but that was a long time ago so maybe they have changed who knows.

Steam IMO is a wonderful service and having this addition might mean Steam may get some bonuses. EverQuest 1 & 2 both came with special Steam items which were nice to have.

Yeah earlier is not very likely. I did the first beta, it still needs some love, but coming along nicely.

Hopefully Trion will take as much time as they need and not rush this game.

If you support PC gaming and don't support Steam there is something wrong. Steam is one of the biggest things going for PC gaming and I end up buying and finding a lot of games I either missed the first time around or from indie developers I wouldn't have discovered on my own. That being said I'm also happy there are other digital outlets like D2D and Impulse since the competition between them is driving more sales, specials and better pricing. Just look at the new Games For Windows site. The first iteration was a useless POS but the recent relaunch of that service is being driven by the competition. Ever since almost every retail outlet has relegated PC games to a tiny shelf in the corner somewhere I have moved further and further into digital distribution. I was incredibly happy to see Rift on Steam.

Don't derail this thread with a steam debate.

But you people are crazy wishing for an earlier release. The longer they go, the better the game should be. Sooner=crappier game, less content, less balancing. And they have a LOT of work still to do.

SWTOR is also slated for Spring 2011... so I have to believe that one of them will either push for earlier, or delay their release. Both releasing simultaneously, despite being different genres completely, has to negatively affect sales to a certain degree. I'd think there'd have to be at least a 1 month delay in between them.

That said, I'm hoping for anything that's NOT close to April 17th when I have a planned 10 day trip. I'm torn between wanting it asap, and wanting it AFTER the trip (blasphemy, I know) just so that I don't miss out on the first week+ of release. THAT would suck. I'd consider canceling the trip, but imagine trying to explain that one to my gf. Hah!

If SWTOR launches in spring, I'm willing to bet it will be horrible. I highly doubt it will have the level of polish or experience of Rift. Mythic is doing it, and you know what happens when they get under the gun...

I WAS really excited about it, but Rift has stolen it's thunder for me. Rift is now definitely my next MMO. Hopefully what you say is true... I haven't been following it in some time. If they're further off than Spring, then I think Rift comes out as planned, and we can hope for March!
