We all know of World of War craft and Guild Wars and how good or bad people think they are. So what will Rift bring to the table that WOW and GW does not? and the countless other MMORPGs out there

I'm personally looking forward to the idea of dynamic zones, where a rift can open anywhere at any time. Plus, the rifts themselves seem like they'll be really fun events...hopefully though they add some sort of scaling mechanic so that higher levels can't just come in and one-shot everything and take all the fun out of it.

RIFT will gain its own little niche of players. I think it will be a nice contribution to the MMORPG community.

Will RIFT be a success? IMHO yes it will be. Will it compare to WoW? Unfortunately not =/.

I try not to think about upcoming mmo's as "WoW killers". Wow has become essentially the mmo paradigm, to the point that "mmo" and "WoW" are practically synonymous in some peoples minds. But there's always room for new games, especially when said games are trying something different. Rift won't topple WoW off it's throne or anything, but I predict it'll have a decent following and a good run, provided the devs implement everything well.

I understand you on that. There will probably be different level zones like in WOW.

Rift brings invasions. How similar invasions are to WAR Public Quests or GW2 Dynamic Events only time will tell. Rift and GW2 seem to be the only major MMOs dabbling in dynamic content that I know of.

Rift will not be competing much, if at all, with SWTOR and DCUO. Besides the difference in genre, the difference in projected playstyle will probably keep the fans mostly separated.

How will Rift compare to WoW? I don't think there is a chance that Rift is going to be an immediate threat to WoW. It will really depend on how things evolve into endgame and the actions of the devs at and after launch. Even if Rift did everything right I don't think there is much chance you would be able to seriously challenge WoW before 2012.

From everything I've seen, heard and read I'm definitely expecting that Rift will be a successful game, so I'd be surprised if Rift fell on it's face like Vanguard, Alganon or FFXIV.

Very true how WOW and MMOs are synonymous. I dont want this to topple WOW I just want to be a great game and maybe be a "side-kick" to WOW

Rift will do ok if the dev's make it less WoW and more of it's on style. If a mmo wants to take customers from WoW then they need to be diffrent and do there own thing.

I think Rift will do well. I don't think any game will ever come close to the monster that is WOW so that is not a measuring stick I use.

Rift needs to have it's sum greater than it's parts to get over the top. Nothing revlotionary about the game but with good design taken from other games and a little sparkle of individuality something special can be had here.

Rift is really getting some good press. If they can nail the dynamic world aspect of the game I think they can really make it as a contender in the MMO world.
