So after a few days of participating in contests, obsessively refreshing twitter, and posting to this forum, I was rewarded with a VIP Beta key (from this forum, thanks Kaasha). I redeemed it immediately, and after getting the invitation email, downloaded and patched the client. Once it was done, I logged in and hit play to see if I could at least check out the title screen before the event started, and was greeted with:

Fatal Error
An error occurred while initializing Direct3D.

Cue five minutes of profanity and banging my head against the wall.

That's not the real irony, though. The REAL irony is that I heard about and became interested in this game because of the gaming laptop contest the Escapist is holding.

That's right. My computer is incapable of running a game that would give me a shot at winning a better computer.

Somebody just shoot me, please.

EDIT: updated my drivers and it's working. I'm having to keep the graphics very low, but I can deal with that. Thanks for suggesting it, Cyanix...didn't think to try updating the drivers since I had just recently updated them for another game.

Update your drivers(including directx) and then get into the beta forums, which are already up now. There are technical support forums already there.

Trion needs your crash data now if you can get it to them. Its entirely possible to fix it by this weekend.

You beat me to it. A lot of games come up with that crash error, it only means you need to update your directx drivers and/or graphics card drivers.
