I was just curious what different things got you obsessed with Rift =)

I myself am just trying to find a game that I can play with my brother.
He came over started showing me the website/forums/screenshots and is just absolutely so excited he can't stand himself at the moment that I figured "Why not".

I enjoy playing games with him and if he likes this then why not try it out.

Still have not yet gotten the chance to try Rift yet, but after seeing gameplay movies etc i think this hopefully can go head to head with WoW when it comes to "spirit", somthing that just makes me wanna play more, not really found that yet since wow.

There where some good game after wow like Conan, LOTRO, and some others, but after playing around a month i start loosing interest.

LOTRO I have not tried.

Conan though, I played for about 3 months before it finally broke me and I had to move on.

DDO I have played off and on for over a year, just whenever that urge hits me.

Someone in my guild posted something about this game a few months ago and I didn't really pay attention to it as I was focused on FFXIV at the time.

Well, FFXIV bombed and I finally got around to looking at rift, I thought it was interesting so I signed up for it. I forgot about it again for another month or so. Then I saw the video about the dynamic world and the versatile class system a week or so ago and got excited. So now I'm in this upcoming beta event and I'll see if it's worth its salt.

Yeah my brother had mentioned it sometime back, and he came over last night and was showing me the videos and what not and I had to wipe a little drool off my lip.

Above and beyond me liking it, I just want him to pick a game so I can play it with him lol.

I'm liking the class(soul) system.

I'm also interested to see how these dyanamic events(rifts) turn out. Not to mention the game looks amazing.

I'll be honest; I wouldn't have toddled on over to Rift if Guild Wars 2 weren't projected so far out into the future. However, having had some time to explore the gameplay, it has won me over on the power of multi-souling and the somewhat unpredictable nature of rifts. Now that I can evaluate it on what it offers that is different from GW2 rather than what I think is "better", I'm getting more exited about Rift.

I liked the concept of being able to pvp whenever you want. I think faction games are great that they let you do that without penalty but sometimes PvP isn't easily accessible and that's what end up ruining the game at cap. People want the game to work like an FPS, you log in, kill some people/raid something, do whatever, log out happy, or stay logged in until someone kills you too much and makes you rage quit. Logging in, and doing dailies(dumbest concept ever...way to make games feel like work), or waiting around for hours until something happens, only to realize you have no choice but to PvE in some instance where everyone else is which is why no pvp happens, is the worst.

So in short:
- easy to find PvP because you can just pop into a rift and start pvping
- World events = people to PvP with since they are not in instances
- customization of classes = many builds you can try, which means you can respec if you get bored
- graphics not outdated, eye candy draws ppl to a game, so more ppl to kill

I first saw the "Heroes of Telara" info from 2009 E3 and it got put on my radar as a game to pay attention to.

Once they started releasing info the class system and the rifts sounded interesting, but I was still reserving judgement.

Got into Beta1 and it was interesting, but I can't say I was obsessed. It was a good, solid game, but nothing really hooked me in... Until Sunday.

Sunday of Beta1 they made some changes to the invasions and I was hooked. Since that time I've been obsessed about Rift.

So I've been a "long time" watcher, but only a very recent obsessed addict :)

Edit: Just realized I misread the question and answered "when" I became obsessed. I think I covered "what" caused me to become obsessed well enough though ;)

I just love the soul system on paper, and it's a selling point for me.

Rift events also look like a lot of fun and can spice things up quite a lot if done properly, so i'm also looking forward to try them.

I think it's a pretty fine hybrid of my most favourited MMOGs and yet a completely new and awesome way of playing! I try to find other MMOGs that could compete with WoW which I plaed until now^^

I've been looking for a new MMO for about a year now because EQ2 has finally lost its appeal for me. I seen someone mention a game called Rift so I went and checked it out and I have been hooked ever sense. The lore is what pulled me in and has kept me hooked. :)

I am hoping the Rift system will break the monotony of grinding for several characters. Instead of doing to same areas over and over again now for a character or two Rifts will have taken over or will at least possibly break through and make the game a little bit more interesting.

And I want a game where I will have started with everybody else and I don't feel like a complete moron (even when I am not).

It's not always a good thing. In fact starting with everyone else is a whole different game. You have to compete for mobs, gear is sh*tty so levels matter a lot, and PvE is **** because no matter how much experience people have they can't seem to learn the basics of a party.

Pretty hellish, but then you get to enjoy the mid game more if you get lucky or have a nice build that works from the start.

I've played and tested just about every fantasy MMO since EQ. I played EQ for many years then decided it was time for something new and yes it was terribly hard leaving my Raid Guild and EQ since I had so much time invested. But 6 days a week PVE raiding was consuming to much of my time. So I moved on to some other MMO's - some I played for months and others on and off. WOW could keep me tied up for months at a time then I'd be just like I've seen it/done it and get bored.

Now -- I always tend to research the upcoming MMO's always keeping my eyes readily open to the next game that will really be a good fit for me. :D I mean I really like a game that I can do it all from PVP, PVE, Group and Solo, plus don't forget not succumb to complete boredom.

So RIFT is a definite plus!! I'm looking/hoping it will be the game but only time will tell. The other games that I am still considering outside Rift is Tera Online because the graphics are just sick (that means awesome) ;p and of course I'll have to try Diablo III.

After years of playing WoW and giving every other MMO released in the past five years a try, I came across Rift as I came across all the others. A post about it on MMORPG.com got me curious, since the screenshots were gorgeous, but it's the soul system that really drew me in. After playing around in the beta for a few hours today I've found multiple other reasons to let myself fall in love with the game, potentially on a scale I haven't experienced since the early days of Dark Age of Camelot. There's action and relevance to everything you do immediately upon playing, though I don't know how much I can say without breaking the NDA. It's inviting and beautiful in a way most MMOs try to be, but fail to.

Personally I love to play Everquest,Rift seems to have built on some of those principles and I love the non traditional no levels but everything is based on advancing skills. This has always been the preferred method to advance toons. I have played just about all MMO's and I have been looking for the game that will take the best from all the rest to make a complete game. Rift seems like they might have done it. Only time will tell.

I never even heard about RIFT until after the first closed beta was over.

The class/soul system really caught my eyes along with the rifts (invasions included). I can decide which class combo/skills I want and trying out something different without leveling up another character. Rifts and invasions were great ideas too. They don't feel like grinding at all.

Cheers!

I ran into the game through a newsletter and looked into the in depth soul system of being able to basically create your own class out of different souls.

So many different variations and combinations it looks like it could offer a lot more re playability over some games who offer one class with a single cookie cutter build that everyone else uses.

Don't worry. I'm sure someone will theorycraft the "best" builds for raid composition within a week after release. Then after actual high end gameplay starts you will start to see "required" builds for raid participation in some guilds.

However, even in a worst case scenario, having 4 Roles means you can have your dedicated raid build and then 3 other builds for doing other things (i.e., solo build, group build and pvp build for example).

ive been playing mmo's for over 10 years and after a friend of mine told me about rift a few days ago its all i can think about lol. Ive been scouring the webisite watching every video i could find on rift, read all the info and listened to some of the devs talk, and man im blown away. The graphics are amazing I mean man ive always wanted to play an mmo with great background scenery and I feel that visual aspect has alot of impact on a game, Im also excited about the content , I love raiding and dungeon crawling and then being able to fight in the rifts at any given time is a plus, the game so far that ive been able to see is truly amazing and mind blowing, truly looking forward to being able to beta test rift hopefully!!

Honestly, it was the lore that got me. I'm one of those people that read all the quests and listen/wait for NPCs to tell their stories. Although I haven't played the beta I will still purchase this game at launch. From the looks of things, they've spent a lot of time on the various content types and I can't wait to experience all of it. :)

The biggest thing that drew me to Rift is the soul system and how you can truly build out a character to your own unique play style. I really hope that lives upto the expectations I have on it.

Friend recommended I try and get into the beta and after so many darn keys and email accounts we got in and played to level 20 on a few toons. Overall, I liked the various souls but it seemed to me that there is still a little tweaking to be done.

Really wish they would make getting into the beta a little easier and I am looking forward to hopefully getting another key for the 3rd beta test as I have the entire week off next week! Hours of hours of debugging!

Once I started reading about Rift in November, I knew I had to had to play this game when I saw that there were essentially 28 classes and plenty of room for customization. Every other good thing I've read or watched about Rift since then has just been icing on the cake to me.

I was only following RIFT an eye. And then I had the opportunity to test it during the last beta. And here I have only one word: AWESOME!
RIFT is a sacred quality. This is a quality that has rarely crossed for a beta. Besides lifting the NDA says a lot about the subject.

For sure it was the soul system and the dynamic Rifts. Finally the freedom to play a tank/dps or heal (depending on calling) without having to make an alt. As long as you enjoy your calling you are gtg.

Trion has definately got the marketing hype thing going for this game. The last MMORPG I put effort into playing was Warhammer. Zipped through it, ran out of content, so I quit. Really curious to see if Trion will succeed where other MMORPGs have failed, ready end-game content for the mob of hardcores.

Also playing this on my Dell U2711 with 2 Radeon 5970 puts a banana smile on my face =).

I really need somthing new to play, have played a another game since 2005. And really i cant stand it anymore :) Ofc i looked at some other titles and tried some. But none of them caught my interest, so far this look like something somewhat new, kinda like the settings and feeling the vids. I really hope this is something darker not neccesary more adult game.

Rift looks like is going to be a fun game.

Only problem is Star Wars TOR and Diablo 3 are coming out in 2011. This game i would think would have to be real good to get the people to at lease give this one a chance.
There is some hard core Diablo 3 and Star Wars fan out there.
