Most important question: How big is the world?Follow

LOTRO was my fist MMO. I played it almost exclusively for 2 years. I couldn't bear to play it any more, what with it having gone free to play, and having BUY STUFF WITH TURBINE POINTS! pop up every time I try to play, not to mention that leveling goes too fast now and I'm not very interested in raiding. It used to have an impressively large world, but the later additions and zones are quite underwhelming.

Then I tried Aion. It basically shrinks everything: world size, run speed, and mob aggro range. Very disappointing.

So, anyone who's played enough to have gotten around a lot: is it big? I don't even mind if questing is repetitive or if PvP is boring, as long as there's lots of room to do it.

Well you only have Freemarch and Silverwood to compare, and im pretty sure the rest of the terrain isnt so smooth and flat. You'll probably have to wait or release or Alpha NDA to drop. In either case, i'll let you know the answer after the one that cones first ;)

I would think its pretty big, but the RIFT designers have said they aren't concerned with how big it is, but how fun it is.

I'm sorry to say it's not very big. A lifetime member of LOTRO myself... you could fit 2 zones in Lone Lands easy... and between both factions there are only 8 zones and 2 'major' city zones...

In Lotro statistics... Rift world is about the same size as LL, ND, Angmar, and Shire. Maybe a little smaller.

I haven't seen the whole map revealed; but you can get a good feel for it running from one end of Silverwood to the other in about the same time it would take to ride from Bree to the Forsaken Inn.
