New Wiki Feature:

The Rare Mob Compendium

A compiled list of almost all Rare mobs and related achievements. I cant do this alone. If you find a rare mob in-game, Please record this data and either post it here, edit the applicable page or PM me and I can add it on your behalf.

* Coordinates
Press "M" on the map view you have two coordinates, one is where your mouse is hovering and the other is where your character is. Record the Coordinates the Rare was found.
* Hit points/ Level e.t.c
How much health is it, how hard is it.
* Mechanics.
Is it ranged attacks, does it keep silencing you?
* Loot
Well obviously you want to kill it for the loot, share its loot so we can make a compiled loot table.

Can you take a screen shot for it too?
Screen shot tools don't work if your in fullscreen mode (yet), turn on "Windowed Fullscreen" to be able to take screen shots. PM me and I can send you my e-mail address to send me.

There is an Assassin in the Mathosia starter area. I don't know the actual name or position or anything though.

It was either Defiant Assassin or Deathbound Assassin. I just know it was there

I found 3 rares in Mathosia. The first was an archer about level 5-6 that wandered around near the table in the area outside the main gate of the city, before getting into the war camp. She's located near the zone wall and wanders the path just in front of the table where you'll see the main baddy do a little scripted event to the left side out of the gate in the questing area.

I found an altar outside of the warcamp along the zone wall behind a broken house and a little away from the catapults. After activating it it spawns a rare ghosty. I was never able to get the altar to reactivate.

The third mob was a wandering skeleton warrior to the right of the rift just outside of the broken gate. He's a gate warden of some type.

I've been trying to find a map to give approx coordinates. When I get into the next beta event, (which I don't have a key for yet) I will update you with the requested information. Just posting this up here in case someone has more specifics.

great thanx, i'll check those locations out also. Its hard to find new ones on a beta as everyones squashed into small areas so rares dont live long.

I do believe you have the way coordinates work listed incorrectly.

The coordinates is based on your mouse's location over the map. There are 2 sets of numbers, an "x" location and a "y" location. Standard graphing mechanism.

X = first number

Y = second number

5620,5680 go to that location in Freemarch and start your treasure hunting!

I think they have a small arrow (or upside-down triangle) over their character portrait.

I killed several in Beta but I forget them now.

I'm very glad this was bumped, because almost as if by fate I encountered 2 rare mobs within 20 minutes after reading it. They are both in Scarwood Reach, and drop items that can be turned in as part of some hunting quest...

They have what look to be diamonds at the top of their portraits.

Scarbeak: Elite 8k HP. Hits hard. Has a stun.

Location: 3171, 3647 (Scarwood Reach) - Paths around this area. Mostly in front of the cave when you have to get the eggs. Does pat away (rarely), but eventually (if not killed) makes it way back to the cave and pats in front of it.

What i mean buy two coordinates is you have your characters location and the location that your mouse is hovering over, the two do not appear at the same time though. and thank you for explaining to others how the 2 number coordinate system works.

It is a blue diamond. If you have the tutorial on, it will pop up with a message about rare mobs.

Guardian Starting area, near the Deathbound creatures that you need to use the dagger on, there is a Rare, Mayor {something or other}. He dropped a green staff "Mayorial Staff" or something similar.

Sorry, killed him a few days ago, then found this thread.

The altar activates when you kill the 2 sorcerers that are performing a ritual.
If they are not there you have to wait until they respawn.
The mob drops always drops 'Horrir skin tunic' a level 3 green leather chest with +2 endurance.
And unique look.

The assassin thats on the path to the war camp spawns when the courier runs by. Kill the thaumaturge first since it aggroes on courier with assassin. If it kills the courier then it runs away and vanishes. You will have to wait for another courier to make his run.
Drops a level 2 green dagger 'Defiant killer's dagger' +1 to str.

Ran across a rare named Scald in Gloamwood when I was roaming the mountains looking for artifacts on my Rogue.

Location: 5495 1008 3205 (as given by /loc)

Wasn't too hard to me, but then again I'm a level 33, higher than the area. My pet tanked it most of the time, and I whittled it down with arrows.

It was weird how it spawned; I was running over the area and noticed a glyph type thing on the ground. I ran up to it, over it, but nothing happened. I started to run off, but then it spawned on the glyph. I started to fight, but shortly into the fight it turned into a wisp-type mob I wasn't able to damage. It then started following the mountain north until it stopped a short distance and turned into three more wisps I was able to damage. I burned those down, after I killed them, Scald spawned again. I whittled it down some more, and it again turned into a Wisp and moved north. This time when it stopped, it spawned 8 more wisps. I killed those, Scald spawned again, and this time stayed around until I killed it off.

It dropped Scald's Great Sword, image here.

Hope that made sense... I wish I had snapped a screenshot, but I had someone else eyeing the mob while I was sizing it up.

Gurok in Scarwood Reach is a roaming rare NPC located in the Auld Warden subzone.

He will circle the tree base at the very bottom and path up the stairs to the first level. Giant, hard to miss.

Nuhtu in Scarwood Reach is a roaming rare NPC located in the Lord's Hall subzone. He uses a satyr model, quite large and hard to miss.

He paths the hallway area where you complete the Guardian quest to restore the altar all the way out to the door to the ledge you use to exit the indoor area.

Vasyu in Scarwood Reach is a level 34 rare monster that spawns in the cave with Thedeor's Shrine, the entrance of which is at 2642 1094 3787 (as per /loc). Didn't fight it, as it was a level above me, and rare to boot.

58 out of 106 rare mobs have information about them. Help us collect more information so I can make a shiny map for you all with locations of every rare mob.

Just killed a rare named Fezziled the Curious at location 6390 884 2029 (as per /loc) in Moonshade Highlands. Wandered back and forth between the road and the pond a few times before I killed him. Was level 39. Dropped a Curious Scarlet Hauberk.

I'd add the info, but I'm not very good at wiki stuff. :)

Just encountered Stalker of the Grove in Gloamwood. He was solo (no adds.) Came running from Grove of the Ancients into the road at around 5379, 2578. I didn't catch his level. :( But he was a werewolf-hope that at least helps finding him.

As far as I know, there's a total of 6 rare mobs in Mathosia (the Guardian starting area).

Four of them can be found by watching the video at the bottom of this page - http://rift.incgamers.com/guides/Guardian_start_zone_hidden_books - which also (obviously) shows the location of the 14 or so books that are found here.

The other two are both located within the small area between Ardenburgh and Valor Hold.
One is a female with Lykeria somewhere in her name, wandering around with another mob (a Traitor when I saw her) on the left hand side along the wall. She drops Lykeria's Bow, which has +1 Strength and +1 Dexterity on it.
The other is a Defiant Assassin, who spawns along the path between the two locations when the Courier runs by. I had to follow the Courier back and forth about 5 times before the Assassin spawned, and he spawned right out front of Valor Hold. He drops Defiant Killer's Dagger, which has +1 Strength on it.
