Zam Rift Wiki vs Telerapedia?Follow

I am sorry if mentioning another Wiki is taboo but What is the difference between the two? Telarapedia will be what people see first. (Google doesn't like deep websites lol)

I am new to Zam so I don't really have anything to really compare although looking at the Zam WoW Wiki compared to WoWWiki they are vastly different (although the Zam one is cleaner).

So anybody who has been around for a while does the Zam Wiki get updated as often and remain accurate or does it kind of dwindle after a while?

Honestly why is it VS??

I have about 6 different sites I currently use for Rift. Until the game is release and one site really shines more than others I will continue to use many different sites for info.

Thanks Kaasha.

Im Bohtauri, or Boh for short. Im the admin that oversee's the Rift@ZAM wiki.

to answer your q's and comments.

The Rift@ZAM wiki gets updated very very often. Since the Beta NDA has dropped only a few days ago the Rift@ZAM wiki has almost doubled in size. Compared to telarapedia that has added& edited ~12pages.

Unlike other wikis out there, The Rift@ZAM wiki has me working full-time or Rift stuff so you can be sure that it wont be left alone.

Accuracy is always of top importance to me. I strive to keep things accurate.especially with Rift being in Beta things can most certainly change.

On the case of google, I cant speak for google but from my experience, if people makes links to the rift@zam wiki on their sites we have a higher chance of appearing at the top of google search results.

But in the end there is only so much I can do on the wiki. The wiki can only be a success if the community gets behind it and support it. If you or others out there want to add or update content but dont know how. ask in the forums or PM me. Thats what I get paid to do Smiley: grin

Telarapedia is our competitor, theres no denying it, but we are open to any opinions, I try my best to use all opinions and ideas in a constructive way. If you think they have a feature that you would like on our wiki, let me know and I can get to work building it.

And the best question for last

So far not much honestly but some main points are. Rift@ZAM is growing a lot faster than Telarapedia. You have me Smiley: lol working at least every day of the work week on the wiki. If we get a Item Database for Rift we have "wikibase" technology. this means every database item/npc/quest e.t.c has its own wiki page that anyone signed in can edit, making it a wiki and Item database in one. Basically a one-stop shop for anything you need to know. Also I'm paid to be an admin for ZAM, so you have real cash being invested into the Rift ZAM community.

Any item/quest/npc e.t.c wiki page made now will automatically get plugged into the item database "if" we get one. So any hard work made now wont be wasted.

I cant represent Telarapedia but in a unbiased way I do know. 1) They have cleaner urls, 2) Its run purely by volunteers 3)They have a lot more guilds posting wiki articles about their groups. 4) They use the standard Mediawiki platform.

We use custom made systems of wiki and item databases that's been developed to help the gaming communities specifically.

A question missed out is "what are your plans?"
This is where I get goosebumps because I know whats in store for you guys. I am planning a very large wiki at the very very least. Very suppportive, informative and accurate. We have a lot of projects in the pipeline that my hands are tied so i cant squeal, but what I can say is we have a lot in store for the community and once the game is released, expect the floodgates to be opened in a huge way in helpful resources.

In a long story short.... I have to be biased towards my hard work. I don't want to build it just to abandon it later. You have my personal guarantee that Rift@ZAM wiki will be the best I can admin it.

It'll be even better as the community works on it too.

I couldn't figure out what you meant by your question then I looked away for a second and it hit me. I didn't necessarily mean VS like I am pledging my allegiances to one or the other. It was just a better title than anything else I could think of. I do know what you mean by having multiple sources or information

I was half hoping that people with more experience on Zam would be posting but being able to hear actual statistics from an admin makes this a bit more interesting.

I am hoping that Rift proves to be as good as the beta is making it seem and I will be sticking around. I have always wanted to help out with a wiki from the start.

Maybe the urls your talking about are different than what I see but they look about as complex to me as the Rift ones. Wikis just interest me in general.

Thanks for this great reply. This definitely made me even more excited about the game and being part of this community. I really hope to stick around. School has a bit too much say in that though. I hope to be able to help out as well.

Well a bit more about me.

I been building wikis for a while now, over my entire lifetime ive made approx 110,000 wiki edits. I have built gaming wikis including the 2nd officaly largest game wiki out there. (wowwiki at the time was 1st, now Wowpedia is 1st). I built Aionopedia almost single-handedly this year, thats over 55,000 articles used by over ten thousand users every day at the time I left it (Aionopedia is one of the top 200 wikis in terms of size in the world).

if you want to see what kind of work I have done you can see my wiki profile here.

The Rift wiki when I started here was 0 articles 2months ago, b4 the Beta NDA droped it was 260 pages and now its 450 pages with approx a 10% daily growth easily at the moment and i dont see it to stop anytime soon.

I could give more details and stats for you but I may get in trouble.

I don't want to get you in trouble. That is pretty interesting. Wiki's do seem to be an integral part of the future of gaming. (And I am surprised a game like Aion did not have a wiki already.) Going with what I just said I assumed all games especially MMO's have some sort of wiki, quality aside lol.

Most MMOs eventually wind up with a wiki of sorts but how much use it gets depends on a variety of things. Sometimes all people really want is a database of items and quests to answer the "what" and "where" questions. Other games with a little more meat benefit from the full wiki shenanigan, especially when they feature enough depth of content for people to start asking "why" and "how" type questions. And even though having a paid wiki admin type person helps enormously, it largely boils down to the community to step up and make the wiki the kind of resource that people are going to use on a regular basis.

I will be using Zam's Rift Wiki due to the intelligent mod Bohtauri and the great community already in store even before the release I can only see it blowing up in many great ways.
