Soul Tree Calculator FeedbackFollow

Hi,

I'm using Firefox 3.6.13.

I'm having 2 problems:

1) I can't get right-click to work properly. Left-click updates immediately, I've waited for right-click for over a minute and no response. What's wierd is that if a skill is filled, and I left-click and hold, and then right-click, it decrements by 1. But more right-clicks while holding the left-click button down don't do anything. And if I try it again, the left-click and hold increments back to full so that the right-click only brings it down 1 below full again.

2) If I refresh the window, it wipes out everything and asks me to select my class again.

I love the design of the tool, especially the summary at the bottom, but I just can't use it at all right now.

Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry. I didn't think of this until after I posted. I use a bunch of add-ons for Firefox. It seems that one of the add-ons, All-in-One Gestures, is not compatible with your soul planner. Once I disabled it, right-click started working. I'm still losing everything when I refresh, but I was only trying refresh to see if the right-click was working, just not showing up. So, I'm good. Thanks again.

EDIT, EDIT: I just double-checked and right-click *does* work with at least one other soul planner out there, even with All-in-One Gestures enabled. So, it's definitely something between your soul planner and the add-on. Not a big deal.

Hi, firstly, thanks for the role builder :)

Just a few question, I uses Chrome as my browser, when I use the builder, did all the point and such, if I lock the build then the link to the build opens a blank builder (no invested talents), but works fine without the lock build. Not sure if this is intended :)

ps: isn't the mage soul called Elementalist not Elemental Summoner?

Thanks, we'll look into why there is a conflict with that add-on and our page. I can't guarantee how soon that will be, though.

I can't duplicate this issue with lock. Locking the build or not should have no effect on the build link working. It should not be returning a blank build. We do have a bug currently with higher latency connections where the calc doesn't function properly. That might be what is causing your issue.

When trying to change souls with rogue (I have not confirmed the bug with other callings, only tested with mage though), occasionally instead of popping up with the window to change classes, it pops up with a window showing the ability info near the bottom of the page.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f377/Vataro/stcbug.png

edit: Firefox latest version, when it starts happening it will happen with any of the 3 soul areas.

edit2: another bug: In the ranger soul tree, in the roots, the skill "Call Greater Dire Wolf", requiring 24 points in the tree, has the name of the skill as text behind the button.

Wait a bit longer between clicking on things for now. We're looking into it.

Didn't occur to me that might be a problem. I'll try to calm myself down for now :).

The fix is going in here momentarily (I hope -- tested with 2 seconds of lag introduced and still worked fine,) but if things are loading in the wrong boxes try pausing a second or so between clicks. If that fixes it (after the fix I'm talking about goes in, which we'll announce,) please let us know the offending course of action to cause it.

Quick side note. Do not write and have all your browsers use a http proxy which introduces 2000ms latency to each http request, take the dog for a walk and forget you are using it, come back and wonder wtf is going on with your internet connection.

Several issues should be resolved. I've updated the list on the original post. Work continues on tightening things up to be more friendly to slower connections.

For those using all-in-one gestures for FF (and possibly similar software): these add-ons intercept the click before it gets to the browser which means we have no way to tell a click occurred. In testing, setting the gesture-activating button to middle-mouse worked for me. I tried alt-clicking since the add-on disables gestures with alt pressed, but still no love. I saw no ability to add exceptions based on site or anything. Also, you could temporarily disable it (Tools -> add-ons -> All In One Gestures -> disable/enable).

When I go to the Soul Tree Calculator, it appears to be blank. That is, none of the icons, images or text are there. The information is there, so when I mouse over I can select things, but even after adding souls the screen is just scrambled fragments.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox.

When posting feedback, please post the version of the browser you are using.

I don't mean to nitpick, but "latest version" means different things to different people. To some it is the latest beta, latest daily snapshot, latest release candidate or latest release version.

Are you using IE7?

Is the pvp line working as intended? In particular, I was trying out the infiltrator. It used to take 26 points to reach the top tier but now only takes 21 points. In addition, I can only place 21 points into that tree.

Edit: I am running Firefox 3.6.13. I also tried it on Google chrome 8.0.552.237

They designed the PVP soul so that you can only invest 21 points into it. This is to see to it that you can only get one top tier ability and that in order to get to that tier u are forced to do a linear path. It's the way the dev's made it. Honestly I feel this was a good move as being able to have more then one of those top tier abilities would just be OP.

For the Warlord soul tree, the following abilities do not have descriptions of what they do in the soul tree calculator:

1. Call to Arms
2. No Permission to Die
3. Call to Focus Fire
4. Call to Aid
5. Rallying Call

A bit of a request: Would it be possible to add mouseover text to the souls so that when you're selecting a soul too add to your calling, it gives you the description of the soul similar to how it works in the game? For example, if you were to select the Rogue calling and then click one of the blank soul icons to bring up a list of souls to equip, mousing over the Riftstalker soul would show text containing the in-game description of the soul. With so many souls across four callings, sometimes I go to mess around with a different build and sit there going through all the different souls trying to remember which were the defensive souls or the support souls or...yadda yadda, etc. etc.

For those having trouble right-clicking to decriment points, shift+left-click should work as an alternate now. This applies mostly to firefox/chrome with gestures add-ons, but may work in other cases.

When u sing the soul tree calculator, you are able to click on the box to choose your soul. The pop up comes up for choices, however you cannot actually *pick* one.

It's not popups disabled, since a) that's allowed for this site as part of this test, and b) I receive the class popup, but am unable to make that choice.

This is replicable on a Mac, using both Firefox and Safari.

Hey Xri - are you loading up the build from scratch? Or are you loading the calculator from a linked build?

No errors whatsoever.

I downloaded both Opera and Google Chrome, and found the same behaviour...HOWEVER.

The issue itself is resolved. When loading the Soul Calculator, it defaults to LOCKED (even if it's a new build). Not sure if that's expected behaviour, just something I didn't notice. It doesn't make much sense to lock a new build.

From scratch. It's always defaulting to locked.

From scratch on new installs of Gchrome and Opera, Soul Builder -> drop down to class -> opens up builder. Right options are UNLOCK BUILD. If I unlock, it's fine.

Please note: these are new installs of Chrome and Opera (I wanted to rule out this was solely having to do with FF or Safari), so these would not be picking up any cached status. Or should not.

First, thanks much for the Soul Builder. It is the Rift soul builder tool of choice for me and my friends.

Now (you knew it was coming, didn't you :D), I have a request, one that I've heard other people mention as well. How hard would it be to add chronology to the Soul Builder, so that you could show the sequence in which the points were added to the souls? Perhaps, a user could hit a checkpoint button or such every time they wanted to record the current soul spec. Then, later, someone looking at the soul tree would see a control, initially set at 0, that they could increment to see the progression of checkpoints. I think this would be a tremendous help to people starting the game with an unfamiliar soul build - seeing how someone else successfully spent their soul points in that build while leveling.

It would help too, if the person building and checkpointing a soul build could back up in case they made a mistake.

Thanks again guys.

This should now be fixed. Some changes snuck in from a new feature. That feature (comments, ratings) has now been put on our live servers and has since fixed the problem.

You did an awesome job with this calculator. I too, would like to see a build progression in the grid (more so than the current ability listing) and also a print CSS so that it prints nicer without wasting a ton of toner/ink.

Thanks.

Was using a friends laptop earlier to show him the Soul Builder. He uses XP and IE7 and there were tons of issues, not the least of which was to convince him to upgrade IE, heh.

Issues noticed;
-Soul Selection popup, after the first soul was selected the popup was behind the adjacent soul tree column.
-Mouse-over tooltip would get 'stuck' and show the same tip for an extended period
-Left-click would add 1 point to a Talent, repeated left-clicks would not add a second or further point.
-Right-Click and Shift-Left-Click would not decrement the talents spent

IE7 didn't completely fix all of the fail of IE6. It's best to require IE8+ and ignore the older versions of IE as it's just not worth the hassle.

Now that ZAM wiki has the skill rankings by levels, are there plans to fold them into the Soul Builder?

ie. Such that when you assign points enough to be say L25, all the upgradeable Talents and Roots now display their L25 values?

Pretty much that. Less than 2% of our visitors use IE7, now. We are trying to resolve all the IE7 issues but it is a low priority, given how few people use the browser and those bugs are IE7 specific.

We don't even attempt to make anything that works in IE6 anymore.

I don't have IE7 to test, and trying to get it to work in a windows virtual PC thingmajig was beyond me, but in IE8 running in IE7 compatibility, everything except removing points was working. Not sure specifically what it's angry about, but I'll try to find out after I knock out a few more pressing issues.

Tested fine on IE8 both 32 and 64 bit on Vista Home Pro and 7 Ultimate, latest stable FireFox and Chrome on Ubuntu and Windows, and Safari and Opera on 7 Ultimate. Didn't have time to test the others.

For kicks and grins, I also tested it on iPhone iOS4 (not the most recent). It sorta kinda works for non-right-click things, heh.

Can you please create a print.css so that we can print the builds out properly? It would be a far easier and worthwhile solution than trying to bend the calculator to work in IE7 and benefit everyone. Thanks.

With printing, are you primarily concerned about the points spent in things rather than pretty pictures?

Well, right now when I print, I just see the point #s (e.g. 5/5, 0/5) floating. It would be helpful if these numbers were slightly larger and had a box outline. Even better, do CSS color differences so we can easily tell which ability has points in it and those that don't. You could even do a color for partial point abilities.

Although lines connecting the boxes would be nice, that and the background images aren't necessary. Printing the tree so it's easier to see (also include box outlines for the 3 souls) on paper.

The alternative, quick and dirty solution, would be to do something like wowhead did with their print (which wasn't just CSS).

Thank you for working on this.

Hi,

I know that asking for this is like wanting to eat my cake and have it too, but can you use a unique URL for each version of the Soul Calculator, so that links to old builds don't become suddenly useless? Since the Soul Calculator has changed for beta 7, all pre-beta 7 links in all forums are no longer useful. I would have liked to compare my pre-beta 7 build to my beta 7 build to get a better idea of how things changed for my character. This could be useful even after release because you know that Trion is still going to do some tweaking of souls after release.

Or, maybe the print option that someone else asked for would do just as well, now that I think about it. It would allow me to print the build in a way I could archive to a file as well as print. Then, when a new version of the Soul Calculator came out, I could do another print and compare the two.

Thanks.

EDIT: Thinking even more about the print option, it could possibly even be used to substitute, in a simple-minded way, for the chronological soul planner feature I was requesting above. I mean, if I can print out each stage of the build along the way, I would have all the steps for my chronology.

Thanks again.
