I saw a lot of these changes from the alpha leak
Some notable changes:
-Racial differences are completely altered and now mostly noncombat.
-Attack power no longer affects auto-attacks.
-Tanking souls for Warriors have changed.
-While there are substantial changes to many soul trees, one common element among all of them is abilities that get stronger the more points you put into that individual tree. Previously it was optimal to only go up to about 31 points in a single soul; now there is increased incentive to spend beyond that.
I think the racial change is particular odd, and I feel it's more of a lateral move than an improvement. Previously radials were quite meaningful (especially for kelari and high elves), but hugely imbalanced. Now they've tried to go with more flavor style abilities that don't have combat effects, but I feel they've made some mistakes here. I don't believe that direction is flawed, but they've made errors in trying to achieve that goal. The Ethia and Mathosian movespeed bonus is the kind of ability that can give someone a functional edge in pvp, such as getting to the fang faster in Black Garden, or reaching capture points faster, and many other situations. They also have stat bonuses for each race, and while these may be minor it is still a querulous choice. I understand that the Wisdom bonus helps characterize Elves as being wise, and dwarves getting strrength characterizes them as being stout, and etc. However, even though it's minor, people will still want to min-max their characters. High Elves are the best Guardian race for Clerics, and it's silly to have such an obvious-if-small advantage. You can be a Dwarf Cleric, but you're very clearly paying a price for it; a small price, but a price. Edited, Feb 4th 2011 8:04pm by Allegory Edited, Feb 4th 2011 8:05pm by Allegory
