Ok i've gotton to level 30 cleric and have a melee dps spec:

my question is what stats do i want? Spellpower / wisdom?

or str /dex

Im asking cuz i just got an epic 2h hammer with str / dex on it.

thanks

*Edit* ok i said ***** it and equiped that epic hammer and saw a minor inscrease in melee dmg and bit lower spell dmg so it wasn't worth it.

You primarily want Wisdom, Spell Power, Intelligence, and Spell Crit. Each of the melee cleric paths has a passive which converts spell power to attack power, spell crit to physical crit, and focus to hit chance. You do also get Attack Power from Strength, but you get a smaller percentage than you do from Wisdom (50% versus 75% I believe), making wisdom more efficient. As an additional benefit Wisdom and Intelligence also increase your mana regen and mana pool, ensuring your capability to continue using abilities.

I dont really understand how the DPS cleric works, are they designed so that the lousy DPS of their weapons is compensated for with the spell power/attack power conversion stuff?

My latest 2H mace at level 16 had like 5.6 DPS and mobs 4 levels lower than me were taking a long time to kill.

Yes. It's not that their weapons have lousy DPS, but normally, clerics have little or no str or dex, which is the only source of physical attack power. By using spell->attack conversion passives those caster stats get turned into physical stats.

At level 21 my cleric had aroudn 170 spell power, and perhaps like 5 attack power. Going from 5 attack power to 175 attack power is huge difference when it comes to smacking people in the face. (Well except that white damage receives no AP improvements, but that is the same for everyone).
