Ultimately i will be focusing on pvp, however, when i start tomorrow i am wondering what the best way to level is? Is is possible to gain good experience through pvp, or should i plan to start out as a strong pve soul and quest until high level? Also as far as groups go...would i be useful if i play as a marksman or warlock?(havent decided which yet) or would it be smarter for me to start as a tank(riftstalker) or support...bard/cloromancer so that i am more useful to groups? Any insight would be great, i know all mmorpgs are different and i don't want to be that guy that makes his first character ungroupable.

Marksmen and Warlock/Necro are both solid builds in general. Pets make great tanks. I say try it all. You can get all 8 souls for any class s if you think you messed up just finish the quests at 15 and try a different build.

Nothing you can do in this game makes you ungroupable. And if anybody says otherwise they are probably a high and mighty person that will only group with people they create anyway.

Warlock/Necro is one of the top contenders for best mage soloing build. I very much doubt it'd be bad for grouping, but you could always use a second spec for grouping (you can have up to 4 saved to switch at any time out of combat).

Marksman goes well with Ranger, which provides a pet and allows you to also solo well. The damage is good in groups.

Thanks for the responses, i feel better about my choices now. Could you tell me if you can level up effectively through pvp or is pve faster/necessary? Will determine my build. Also, is there a big difference in ranged dps between the marksman and warlock? And in open world pvp would having stealth be a big plus? I know i'm asking a lot, just want to have somewhat of a plan when i start out.

Most people will PvE with breaks for PvP. Queues for Warfronts on the servers I've used vary from 1-10 minutes. During that time I'll pick up quests and do some of them for extra exp, money, and gear.

Warfront xp is not as good as questing/rift hunting xp unless you're winning. Questing and rifting would likely be faster. Ideally you'd be doing both PvE and PvP until you hit the cap. Lots and lots of people are going into warfronts with no idea what they need to be doing to win so you just get an orgy of stupidty off in the corner somewhere with five people trying to kill some rogue's pet while 3 marksmen bounce around and shoot them all to pieces.

Also, if you do exclusively PvP content, you'll be broke and in crappy gear most of the time. There are some decent PvP rewards to be had but they aren't enough to fully equip a character.
