Rift (and trion) down? Login won't connect, don't even get an ad to load on the left of the box. Rift site and forums down. trion's website down. Well, every so often I can get it to load 5% of the way, and once it loaded just the html, not the css. one time i logged into the game far enough for it to start a patch up (likely the one from late last night when it went down for 40ish mins, i hit the bed when servers went down, didnt patch). but timed out/stopped (after downloading part of it at my typical downoad speed)

but anyways, my intronets is fine, obviously everything else working. The one independent site, riftstatus.com says servers are up with varying populations (though it doesnt show status of login/server)

anyways. am i alone in this? it's early yet so not many up and about posting about this it seems.

I'm getting the same problem - it's been going down on and off since like 4 AM central time (logged in for the first time at 1:30AM). It comes up periodically but seems to not last long before it takes another dump.

Yeah, I just tried at 7:45 am EST and got an error message that said "Failed to connect to the authorization server (Error #2005." Then I tried to go on the official Rift website and it was down as well. I'd say they just had a catastrophic failure this morning. Hopefully its fixed by the time I get home from work.

just have ATT dsl, not uverse, but ya, ok, getting somewhere now.

WTF ATT? and does Trion have anything posted on their forums aware that ATT, either intentionally or accidentally, is blocking their content from it's customers?

Don't know if it's related to your internet or whatever, but the servers are scheduled to come down:

We are getting ready to open all the doors for good! Head Start is over and RIFT will be live and open to the public in just a few hours! The servers are down while we make the final adjustments for public access.

We hope you enjoyed the early access and we look forward to bringing you many hours of enjoyment in Telara for a long time to come! Smiley: smile

Good to hear, but you were logged in the whole time. I was on a break, when I came back I was simply cut off from the site and from logging into the game. If you never logged out you may have never known. Same could be for every other single at&t customer that did not log off in those couple hours. The weirdest thing is that we can all log back on to the main site now the servers are down for launch.

It's strange and hope it went away forever!

I hope they do something to prevent new users from rolling on already full servers the moment they go live... I know it's QQ but I do think its a valid concern currently. They need to make recommended new servers and warn non head start people who might unknowingly be rolling on one of the crowded servers.

They're attempting to funnel all new players to the new servers. I think it's a good move as the ones that are already up and full. There's no good way of leaving the already open servers up and directing folks away from them.

If I interpreted a post on the official boards properly, new servers will be activated before the old/current ones to help dilute new people into them. Plus it's a school/work day, so a lot of potential new bloods won't be available until at least 3pm Eastern.

Maybe I'm weird, though, but I don't anticipate the influx of retail players to be as much of a burden as pre-launch. Those interested in the game and wanting in early had the option to do so. Some may lament the lack of physical media, but from my perspective, the $50 for a download beats out that on top of $5 gas then probably another $3 in tax. Downloading the game itself would probably take as long as the trip to the store unless you like live right next door and/or have a crappy net connection.

I hope you are right Seriha, and that may well be true. Also thanks for the heads up Kaasha I skimmed the Oboards for that kind of info today but did not see it.

Looks like they opened a grip of new servers already but are leaving the head start servers locked until 10PST. Now the new question of the day for opening an MMO is did they open to many? I'm startign to think some server mergers after population actually stabilizes might be par for the course for any new MMO these days.

How else would you really accommodate the initial rush and yet not end up with dead servers when some people decide that its not the MMO for them?

Should be interesting.

The #2005 error was actually happening yesterday to a couple friends. It is a known problem but idk if they ever fixed it. All I know is that my friends managed to get back on eventually.

Cant say i understand the point of opening up the "launch" servers at 9am pst for an extra hour. Do they think that the servers are going to be filling up at 9am on a tuesday?!

People who didnt preorder still have to go out and buy the game today and install it, and the vast majority of people playing will still be logging in for the first time during primetime, with all the servers available to them.

eta: yeah didnt do anything http://www.riftstatus.com/index.php?region=NA ... and all those low servers are probably looking at a server merge in a couple months if even that long.

I've played at 30-50ms latency since I got it, but today I logged on and noticed a latency of 33k in Silverwood or whatever that Guardian T2 area is called. By the time I logged off, it was up to 100k and the game was literally unplayable. 100k latency means a 1.67-minute delay on everything.

Not really cool.

I'm guessing the launch of the game somehow @#%^ed up the latency for some of us. Definitely not something I did on my end, considering I played the game last night with no issues.

Edit: I see, the game isn't launched in Europe until the 4th, so color me clueless now.

Edit2: And now it dropped to 140ms and holding. I don't get it.
