Probably been done before, but I didn't see anything on the first couple of pages that might look like it, plus, I figured I'd get a more valid result now that the game has actually launched (overseas).

So, what game did you come from?
Aion:4 (4.0%)
Age of Conan:1 (1.0%)
EVE Online:3 (3.0%)
World of Warcraft:57 (57.0%)
Final Fantasy:18 (18.0%)
EverQuest:9 (9.0%)
GuildWars:1 (1.0%)
Warhammer Online:4 (4.0%)
Lord of the Rings Online:0 (0.0%)
Other MMO:2 (2.0%)
Rift is my first MMO:1 (1.0%)
Total:100

Notice that I didn't put any numbers after Final Fantasy and EverQuest. That's mainly because I'm lazy and can't be ***** adding a million EverQuest to the list, but also because I just want to know what "part" of the gaming community you're from, not which exact game.

Now, some of you probably played more than one of the above, or maybe you're stilling playing something other than Rift. What you should select is the game you've spent the most time playing recently other than Rift. If you're still playing World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy and think you're not eligible to participate in this survey, think again. If you're still playing, say, EverQuest II while also checking out Rift, set your mark at EverQuest.

Also, forgive me if I forgot other notable MMO games, like Star Wars Galaxies or something. Smiley: lol I'm allowed to poke fun of that game. I used to play it. That's how I discovered Allakhazam in the first place.

Anyway, let me know if you want some other game added to the poll. I've honestly lost track of how many games there are nowadays, so I just added the ones that I knew of. And feel free to post your gaming history as well, if you so desire. Always nice with a personal touch to the statistics. Maybe a bit about what you've played before, your opinion on the games and what attracted you to Rift.

Just refrain from the whole mud-flinging thing, please. Smiley: grin

---------

Above line is meant to indicate that I'm starting a new topic, or rather, a new part of the post. I didn't feel like making a double-post.

I came/come from World of Warcraft and have been an avid follower for many years. I've also fooled around with Warhammer and Lord of the Rings on the side (wonder if I ever canceled that subscription?), but found too many flaws in those games to commit to a long-term relationship. I guess you could say that Warcraft is my true love. My soul-mate. My cherry to my ice cream.

Wait, what?

Oh, right, I came from World of Warcraft and hadn't really heard about Rift until people started talking about it a couple of weeks ago. Said it was going to be yet another "WoW killer" game. Didn't really pay much attention to it. Then I got bored real bad with World of Warcraft and decided to check out some YouTube videos on Rift.

To make a long story less long, I liked the concept and decided to get the pre-order from Steam so I could play instantly.

So far, I'm really liking the game. I recognize a lot of Warhammer Online in it, perhaps more than World of Warcraft, but none of the clunkiness I experienced in that game. The Rift events are awesome and allows for something to spend your time on if you get bored of questing. The music, graphics and sounds are just amazing. I love the underwater sound and visual effects (we had a discussion about it in the public Silverwood chat earlier), the fluidity of the combat animations (and again, the sounds... omg, the sounds!) and the music in general.

The only thing that's been keeping me down is recent issues with connecting to the game. It seems to be an ISP or local issue, but I managed to solve it, so it's no biggie.

Anyway, that's it. Go Rift! Fill out the poll thing and help saturate my curiosity.

Oh, should probably add that this isn't a survey or anything. I'm not doing a paper on how MMO games are the devil and will rot the minds of your kids. I'm just curious.

And tipsy.

Well, more like drunk, but who's counting beers? I'm not! Smiley: boozing

The what now? Like a sticky?

Sure, would be nice to keep it afloat. I guess it doesn't hurt to see where people are coming from, considering this game seems to pull people from across the gaming communities.

Much appreciated! Smiley: smile

Edit: I just realized you might have meant like a poll on the News page, which is also cool. Wherever it might attract the most views is preferable.

I come from Final Fantasy. I spent most of my time on XI, and after years, when I started to get bored with that, hopped to Age of Conan briefly (oh-so-briefly...) and then to Aion for its release and several months thereafter. Got bored with that (I kinda..stink at PvP), went back to XI for the Abyssea rush. Realized Abyssea made the game incredibly boring for me, and left it when XIV came out. Stuck with XIV for far longer than I probably should have thanks to a good group of players. And now I'm playing and enjoying the heck out of Rift. I hope my enjoyment stays in the coming months. :)

I actually spent a lot of my early teens playing Tibia (which is still around). But I stopped playing and tried out WoW over the summer. So I put WoW but I am mostly considering Rift my first MMO that I plan on sticking with.

First MMO was EQOA (playstaion 2 and where I first found Allakhazam), then came FFXI (xbox 360), WoW, Aion, AoC, War, **** I even ran 6 months through RoM (f2p). I also feel that "Rift is now my home". It seems it has everything I've been looking for, all the strengths of the other MMOs, but none of their weaknesses.

Bludolphin's post sounds almost exactly like me! Except I left 11 because I hated feeling like it wasn't worth logging in unless I had 3+ hours to play.

FFXI (2003 to 2008)
WoW (2007 to present)
FFXIV (Alpha test 6/2010 to 3 weeks after release last Sept-Oct)
Rift (last week to...hm, this may be a keeper)

I'm still playing WoW. Haven't cut that cord yet, I have a love/hate thing going on Cata, but I am having a blast in Rift and I need some time there before I make the jump permanent. I'm not indecisive at all.

There, I did it. Rift is my first real MMO. Played FFXI for less than a month and was an alpha tester for XIV. I hated them both. Got into the rift beta and I love it. 50 hours since US release after getting to level 19 on beta. I can see myself playing this for awhile as long as I find a good guild or something.

I've played dozens of MMOs and before RIFT I played FFXIV...if you can call it that.

The game was so sparse that I was grinding levels, by grinding on moles, for an entire level.

It's night and day.

I actually am coming off from DC Universe Online - which is actually a fun game.

Before that - World of Warcraft steadily for about 3 years. LOTR, AoC, AION were intermixed during the "lull" periods when endgame was achieved, waiting for the next expansion to be released, or major content patch.

A friend of mine who was looking for a new playing experience introduced me to Rift around Beta 4 and I've been interested ever since.

Crap, knew I forgot some. Completely ignored City of Heroes/Villains, Champions Online and DCUO.

And Ultima, but is that game still alive?

It was almost 6 years ago when I got a non-working beta key for City of Villains. That prompted me to go to Target and look for CoH, but my son grabbed WoW and said "buy this game instead!" During the 6 years, its been all WoW with some side trips to LotRO, Aion, and even Wizard 101.

WoW is what I picked.
i started in FFXI, went to WoW, looked into RIFT, got into beta, bought it...
Then also went back to FFXI Smiley: lol.
I don't have many hours logged into Rift due to them awesome Qs when I get home, but it is a fun and new game.

I've been playing EQ1 since 2001 and WoW for the past 2 years but I don't have the attachment to WoW like I do with EQ. It just doesn't have the same feeling. I've been playing Rift since Alpha and it feels more "home" to me than WoW ever did so I plan on sticking around for quite awhile.

Both Final fantasy's here. And while I do enjoy this game, it really does feel like WoW. I'm going to stick with it until Star Wars The Old Republic comes out and decide which I like more.
