Is it possible to narrow the search focus even more?
For example, I wanted to find all Dominator builds that had exactly 44 points towards Dominator. Right now if I tried to do that I'd have to dig through over 1000 builds to find ones that met that criteria.
Alternatively, maybe narrow the search focus to just the three souls you're looking for? For example, if you wanted to find builds that only used Dominator, Pyromancer and Archon, you would have to look through all the mage builds to find them.
These are good ideas. They're also a bit more difficult do. The problem we have run into in the past is as we allow more and more complex filters the search gets harder for new people to use. We'll need to figure something out for that.
So just wondering where the Cleric Tank builds are. Justicar? Remember them? Why when you select Cleric // Tank do we get builds like Paladin Warden Druid (1 warrior soul and 2 cleric souls)?
Combining souls from different callings is a major bug, imo. Completely omitting roles is another. Please fix.
Until we had the build list, it was an amusing bug where you could manipulate the url to get souls from different callings. Of course, that's not so funny anymore. We really do need to remove those and not store info on them.
Using number of views is a terrible idea. Obviously the ones on the top will get viewed more, but that doesn't make them better. I'm looking at a lot of these builds going "who exactly thought this was a good idea??" Eventually, I realized that there were very few on there that were actually viable for what they said they were for, so I stopped looking. However, since the default filter was by popularity, all I really viewed was "popular" builds (that were terrible).
How exactly are we supposed to improve the intended feature and get rid of the builds that are truly terrible?
Until more people rate builds, this is our best option. Right now our builds are being viewed from a lot of different websites. The current most popular build will disappear from the front page in a few days. For one day it was hugely popular somewhere. After that, not so much. We use a sliding window to determine most popular, not overall.
Over time we hope to be able to greatly improve the default sorting to something much more accurate. Until we get more data though, that isn't possible.
We're working to provide more features for builds in rift. Unlike any other game, they're extremely important. Other games where you had talents or specs you could mostly faceroll and get a workable spec. Doing that in rift could be disastrous.
