Planar Goods - Buy them Right Away?Follow

I'm new (Currently level 18) and haven't been able to find a lot of documentation on Planar Goods. I've been collecting Planarite, Corrupted Sourceshards and Sourcestones and have just been looking at them. I have found a couple of Planar Goods vendors but have wondered if I should be spending these currency items now on gear that will be gone very soon or save them for later on.

Does the gear sold by Planar Goods dealers improve with level and/or zone or should I just go on a spending spree now so it's not totally worthless 20 levels down the road.

Yes.

The special planar bits you'll need to buy goods with changes every so often so spend away.

Meridian's planar goods are different from stonefield's which is different from Scarlet Gorge which is different from Scarwood Defiantside.

I believe it changes every 10 levels.

EDIT: Buy the abilities right away, though. They are pretty useful and I *never* see anyone using them.

The sourceshards are only good for that level range. Once you move to the next zone for leveling it will use a different set of sourceshards. So, spend them now.

You also gain planarite at an increased rate as you do harder and harder invasions/rifts/events.

I have a feeling that as time goes on they will add better equipment to lower level areas in order to draw higher level players into major events throughout the entire world instead of having middle level areas dead forever. But yes spend away. You can easily get a significant amount of planarite in Shimmersand later on. At least on my server despite the population there are ALWAYS earth rifts open in the West.

Id rather have the rifts/invasions tuned accordingly for the population than to have a level 50(s) come through stonefield and steamroll the invasion.

The likely result of that would be that an invasion happens and it's level 50 because there are a bunch of them AFKing or standing around chatting, and now nobody in the zone can do anything about it

Hmm yeah they need to make it scale in difficulty on the fly and base it off of people actively engaged.

I'd say it depends on how fast you level and how much rifting you do. The current best planar focus in the game (4 lesser and 2 greater slots) costs 7500 planarite. It doesn't take long to get that much planarite from level 47-50 rifts, but unless you want to do some dedicated rift hunting or you're in no rush to get the planar focus, you might be better off saving your planarite. And after you get the planar focus, a lot of people like to get the ascended power to summon the field medic, which costs 15k planarite.

I'm level 46 and I've been playing since Head Start.

I do quite a few rifts, a few solo and kill invasions solo whenever they're around.

I try to participate in large scale invasions (with a boss) whenever they occur.

In short, I buy planar goods whenever I have enough Sourceshards for the region; for a particular piece of gear. Planarite has almost never been a problem.

And usually the gear you get, from rifts, is very good and lasts a long time.

The only downside (if you want to call it that) is that while questing most of the gear you get (from quests) turns into vendor trash.

I totally agree with the quest items becoming vendor trash, but if you had crafting professions that could break the items it would be pretty beneficial if there was a demand for the said materials that come from breaking items back down to materials.

the only Planar gear i cant my hands on are the Purples...super hard to get those purple sourceshards, almost feels like you need to be there at the right time for a major invasion to get one or have a group for major rift events and even then your only gonna get a chance at receiving a purple sourceshard

this is only from my own experience though i guess it could be easier for others
