Just looking through my favorite O-Board forum today (Artifacts and Achievements), and one of the Developers by the name of Dead Simon had some interesting stuff:

A few answers
First off thanks for all the kind words, just like all parts of Rift pretty much everything we do is a team effort. So there are a lot of other people who deserve part of your praise and I will leave it up to them if they want to come and say hi. For example I did not write all the excellent Lore that goes along with the artifacts and some of the placement in pots and lamps was not done by me. You can blame me for most of the more dangerous and out of the way ones, along with the cairns, puzzles and a bunch of other secret stuff. Secrets and puzzles have always been one of my favorite things in games and you can expect this to continue, we have some awesome ideas coming your way in the future. Now to some of the questions and comments in this thread.

I am not going to answer anything specific about how things work. Apart from anything else I would hate to shut down the amazing theory crafting that goes on in this Forum as I really enjoy reading that, especially the ones that are either really close to how things work or the ones that are so incredibly wrong. There are also some really good ideas posted in this thread and this forum in general. I cannot say for sure which will get implemented but don’t be surprised if you start to see some of them showing up in future updates.

The Magic Ticket: I can neither confirm nor deny that there is a use for this but I will say that I still have mine

Rare MOBs not spawning: These things do not spawn via any method or theory that I have read about on these forums so far. I am suspicious of the ones that have not ever shown up in any DB though so I will take a look at that and let you know.

Artifact Spawning: Without giving too much away I will confirm that Random Numbers play a part so nothing is certain. In general we certainly did implement risk or time verses reward, so your extra efforts are not wasted.

Token of Batu: That Bahimi has been trying to get rid of that Token for ages. She has no use for it and neither do you

I will continue to read frequently and post randomly on this forum. In the mean time I am happy that you are having a good time in Telara, as I am having fun there also. If I didn’t answer your question it is either that I don’t have an answer for you yet, I don’t want to give away a secret or as you have probably worked out by now I am just and evil ******* and want to keep you guessing

As always keep searching

- Simon

I'm looking forward to seeing if the last three rare spawns in Stonefield are indeed bugged (Questing Overseer, XT-300, and Gnarvul have never been recorded in a database). Also, Simon confirmed in a previous post that Pandora (rare mob in Silverwood) was accidentally given a Defiant-friendly faction on 3/30/11, and this will be reverted.

As for the spawns, this lends credit to the idea that the artifacts in the roots in Deepening Dark (Gloamwood) are always green or blue. So it does seem like the hard ones are more likely to be rare... but I think most people knew that Smiley: smile

Also, pointless bragging, but I collected every artifact in Silverwood and completed all Defiant-available achievements there within the last week! Gloamwood is next Smiley: sly

Oh, I have too. I think that's what Simon meant about Random Numbers. My guess? You always have a low chance (1%) to get a blue from any spawn. And a slightly higher chance (5%) to get a green. But some specific spawns bump the chance up a ton - for example, the roots in the caves in Gloamwood are 100% guaranteed to be greens, and possibly have a higher chance to be blues. Or in Silverwood, I noticed that the artifacts on top of mountains in the north and west tended to yield more greens/blues. Same with the ones in Overwatch Keep.

I have no idea why I said that at all :P. Definitely among the more useless things that could have been said.

I wish we had enough data to know how artifact drops worked. I've at least recorded a lot of different potential spawn points if nothing else. Enough of which I know for a fact have repeated exactly.

I've found a large majority of my green/blue artifacts have been found via more dangerous areas. Namely along mountain ridges I shouldn't be on.

Same here. I actually had AMAZING luck with blues in Gloamwood last night - I think I nabbed four in the space of 2-3 hours (2 circuits around the zone).

-An Elfskin drum off the roots in Deepening Dark. So glad I took the time to figure out how to get those artifacts - every one is at least a green.
-A Crest of Aedraxis, on a pillar of the Puzzle tower. Stole this right out from under the nose of a 26 High Elf who was trying to figure out how to get to it. Take that, stinking Guardian!
-A Lycanthrope Spleen from behind some vines in a tunnel under Shadefallen Keep. I think this is usually a white item and I just got lucky.
-A Cosmin off of the top of a tent in Shadefallen Keep. I think this is the second blue I've received from this spot. That's kind of awesome.

So three of those require a bit of planning to get to, and one was pure good luck on my part Smiley: nod

Still need like 6 more artifacts to finish the zone, including two Delilath the Hags. But I also have yet to kill any rare spawns in the zone, so I figure it'll take me a while anyway! I saw Xaksha last night... right as she got tagged. Was SO angry Smiley: mad

I haven't gotten a real good chance to play lately. End of the semester blows. Hopefully after tomorrow when I turn in a huge chunk of homework I can get back to artifact hunting. I've found it can net you a pretty penny if you sell your extras.
