Deciding what to roll - rogue or cleric.Follow

Hey all, new to Rift.
Deciding between Rogue or Cleric to roll, mainly looking at PvP.

I like the ranged capabilities of rogue, sab and mark looks good.
But then again, the option of being a dps/healer sounds good too.

In your experiences, how good is the cleric dps output, especially in PvP?
And how is sab?

I'm a 50 Cleric running Tier 2s at the moment. I have a mage friend who is similar geared and I could occasionally outdps him in T1s, and my spec traded some DPS for healing. However it's hard to say how much of that was because of the circumstances (types of fights, gear, etc.) I've heard Cleric DPS is the worst of the 4 callings when focusing on it purely, and that may be true. However, it is at the very least not awful. In pvp, your burst damage is fairly limited and so you may have difficulty killing someone through heals, however you can do a fair amount of constant dps and aoe dps.

Also you should know that while rogues can never be main healers, they can spec bard to be good offhealers and support. So rogue can offer you a little taste of all three just like cleric.

Go with what play style you enjoy the most. The one very nice thing about this game is that one character has many viable playstyles. It's really the true beauty of the game.

I started with a sab rogue, after the changes to Charge Booster I jumped ship to Cleric. So far the Cleric has put out more damage and my survival skills went through the roof in PvP (38-51k damage and 157 kills in the last 4 games compared to the 24-26k damage on my rogue and 102 kills in the previous 8 games. Thats as sab though). I've seen Melee DPS output high numbers in PvE but in PvP as Ranged DPS or Melee DPS I'm constantly in the top 5 for kills, killing blows, damage done.

If you're looking at rogue as marksman or sab, the cleric equivelant with inquisitor as your main spec works pretty **** well. The biggest difference is just simply that you can't always rely on healers in the warfront, you seem to have to expect to go in there and get no heals. I constantly see that it'll say Healing Done: 12k, Healing Received: 13k. Thats 1-2 heals from other people through an entire Codex match, that aint enough to say there are people coming to heal in a warfront. So as a rogue you better be one tricky mother or hang out around people willing to heal.

Dont get me wrong though, rogue is really fun, it's just that as cleric I only worry about the guy I'm fighting who's got a pocket healer. As rogue, it's anyone who can heal themselves, any warrior, AND anyone with a pocket healer. Nothing felt better then destroying warriors on my cleric after the countless deaths they gave my rogue...

Clerics def. have the output if they build for it, and they have fairly solid defenses. The only thing taking down clerics in a "omg what happened" manner is going to be a void knight and that's just because you have mana. VKs kill pretty much anything with a blue bar.

I enjoy rogue more in PvP personally as I'd rather have mobility. Odds on you'll win more often in a 1v1 scenario with a well built cleric than any rogue build but when 5 guys show up it's unlikely you're going to escape as a cleric.

QFT, plane shift, shadow stalk and slip away just make it amazing.

Memory Capture behind buildings and in crevices really seems to **** people off in world PvP.

It's amazing where you can get to in this game with a mount.

Is this still true after being nerfed into the ground? If so somebody please tell me the rotation/priority. Because ive specced VK for this purpose and it takes FOREVER to take out a mana bar, and you are much more likely to be killed before you ever get close to draining the mana. What was nice about the spec was that i could silence for 6 sec, fear, and stun. But the mana draining was more or less completely worthless. I blame Dominators for the mana-drain nerf.

I've been tossing the idea around of using the mana drain finisher from infiltrator but I just can't justify doing it. Too little of damage :(

It drains a pittance of mana. (the rogue finisher)

What's worth getting in infil is the spell interrupt on finisher thing (ESPECIALLY for bards) and Anathema, imoo.

Did they nerf VKs that badly? I don't have mana so I haven't experienced it in a while. Though my warrior main build is rb/vk but she's only like 12.
