Was just curious if there was a way to find out, or if anyone could give me a rough estimate of the ammount of bandwidth useage one would have during say an hour of playing rift. I am looking into a portable internet stick to use for rift on the go on my laptop, and the cheepest plan here costs $30 for 500 mb usage, then $35 for 1gb usage. Was wondering if 500 is enough for just playing rift maybe 40 hrs a month on that stick. (all patchest/updates would be on home internet, so just lookin and however much data the game transfers while playing)

Thanks!

I can only comment from 2 previous MMO's that 500mb/40hrs month won't be anywhere close to enough. You could easily see a few hundred megabytes per DAY of usage with only a few hours played. **** even basic internet browsing can suck up 1-200mb/hour of bandwidth.

Max packet size for ethernet MTU is 1500 bytes. Seeing as ethernet is tcp/ip and this game is transmitted via TCP you can expect that it'll add up pretty **** fast.

Where do you live? I'm unfamiliar with bandwidth limitations.

im in Toronto Canada, all internet/cable/cell phone plans outhere are BIG RIP OFFS seeing as there are only really two major providers, rogers, and bell. Rogers.ca has the pricing for the portable internet sticks if you are curious to see just how big a ripoff services are up here ><

This is a.) old, and b.) about that other game. But when AT&T said they were going to cap usage I found this and it gave me a useful starting point for numbers. He estimates about 7mb/hour playing WoW (in 2008), and I would assume Rift takes a lot more. I'd spend the extra $5 a month for the gig to be safe.

So after reading the info on the outdated link teacake posted, i decided to test it myself just now, played for an hour and used 12mb of bandwidth. Thinkin about an anverage of 2 hrs per day now, or 60 hrs per month comes out to 720mb per month of bandwidth appx. guess ill get the 1 gb package and see if i go over!
