New Player to MMO's Need Warrior AdviceFollow

Hello Everyone,

I am a new player to MMORPG's, RIFT being my first. I have been playing it for a little while now and have leveled my Warrior to lvl30. The trouble is I am finding it more and more difficult to progress on my own. More and more often im finding myself dying and I don't seem to be doing much in the way of damage either, enemies take ages to kill and I usually draw more towards me whilst trying to kill the first. Now im not sure if it is the souls I have chosen or the way I have distributed my points. It could even be my play style and I'm just looking for some basic or advanced tips to get the most out of my character and how to play a warrior effectively. I know this is asking a lot but any advice that people can give would be very useful and appreciated.

My Current Soul Tree:
My Soul tree

My Characters Stats:

Health: 2800 Armour: 2900
Power: 100 Strength: 134
Intelligence: 31 Wisdom: 23
Dexterity: 71 Endurance: 141
Valor: 45 Toughness: 0

Life resist: 28 Water resist: 4
All other resist = 0

Attack power: 122 Parry: 142
Physical Crit: 86 Dodge: 71
Hit: 1 Block: 153

Spell power: 27
Spell Crit: 31
Focus: 0

Thank you in advance for any info or comments about any of the things iv posted.

So couple of things:

1: You're set up with these souls to be a tank. That's going to make killing things take longer just by itself because tank abilities will tend to do less damage than dps abilities.

2: Your survivability problems are coming from not having the self-healing branch abilities like Tip the Balance and Karmic Resolution which will heal you every time you do one of your reactive abilities. As a tank you need abilities like this since it takes you longer to kill things while solo (in groups you need them to stay alive while someone else kills things).

Personally, I leveled to 50 as a Riftblade, but I also did that before the Riftblade nerfs and I'm not actually sure it'd work now (or at least, I'm not sure it would work well).

I recommend experimenting with some of the other dps souls like Paragon or Beastmaster as both of them come with decent survivability branches and either would do more dps than Paladin just because that's what they're designed to do

This build used to be UBER. Well it's lost its uberawesomeness but it's still flippin incredible and I love it to death (its also a great anti-gank build)

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cALu.Vuqx00z.E00x0M.M

Ill go into more depth how to use it later.

That gives me a place to start with a new build, anti-ganking sounds like a plus point too as that is happening quite a lot at the moment.

look forward to the other details too! thanks

Well if you haven't already noticed, you get a lot of abilities in this game, and to utilize them all efficiently you need macros.

Here are some important macros for the build i linked

AoE Pull macro (or you could just hit plague bringer and use the single pull macro, either way takes the same amount of button presses)

#show Soul Sickness
cast Plague Bringer
cast Soul Sickness
cast Infestation
cast Necrotic Wounds

Single pull macro

#show Soul Sickness
cast Soul Sickness
cast Infestation
cast Necrotic Wounds

my #2 macro (casts necrotic wounds if out of melee range, i use this for pulling a bunch of melee mobs into an area so that i can use my aoe. if in melee range it applies blood fever)

#show Blood Fever
cast Blood Fever
cast Necrotic Wounds

optional #3 macro (applies frost strike, which you get with 1 more pt in RB, before using searing strike, frost strike increases searing strikes damage by 20%, but is also a snare so you might not want it macrod in there in pvp situations. Personally i view this build as 100% questing oriented so i macro it in there.)

#show Searing Strike
cast Frost Strike
cast Searing Strike

rotation: Strike like lion if i have any AP at all, Pull macro, #2 to apply bloodfever, Fiery Burst, #3 till dead.

I use my tanking gear for this, i like the survivability. i've not tried it with my dps gear so couldn't really say if it makes much difference. this build at 50 kills plenty fast and you have a lot of the essentials available at level 30.

Try ending a fight with 3 AP so that you can activate Strike Like a Lion before each pull. the damage boost is insane.

additionally, what makes this build such a great anti-gank, aside from its survivability and so-so self healing, is Infestation. There is a possibility using the macros i listed that infestation will be on cooldown if ganked, so you can remove it from the macros if you like. Basically, people will attack you and notice this steady trickle of hp loss from your dots. What they dont notice is the ticking time bomb that is infestation that goes off after 8 seconds and takes half their life away on it's own. This damage coming from a player in plate tanking gear is really unexpected and it gets em everytime.

Infestation gets stronger when you spec deeper into RB and get Enhanced Burst.

Iv put together the build you suggested and will try it later on this evening, my first time using macros so hopefully this all goes to plan!!!

Thank you, I'll let you know how I get on after I've given it a fair shot.

I've now been using the build for a few hours and I must say I think I'm finally enjoying playing a warrior.

I did remove the Infestation ability from the macro, works a lot better for me with it separate on the action bar.

I am now at level 32 and so have a few extra points to spend in my build.

You mentioned that it was worth getting Enhanced burst when it was possible to, however since that's not on the cards until level 36 I was trying to work out where to go from here.

My suggestions: (I have 4 points to spend at present)

1 point into "Elemental touch"(RB) to finish it off
1 point into "Master of the Abyss"(Reav) for a sort of panic button.
2 points into "Wasting away"(Reav) seems like a nice ability considering the rotation I am using at the moment.

Then at level 37 or above reset the build and invest those points in the Riftblade tree.

If anyone has any suggestion, or there's something I've missed let me know. Wont be on much more this eve so wont effect me until tomorrow.

Cheers

That works. theres about 3 points in reaver that you can do what you will with. i think i put mine on improved infestation for soloing elites and stuff.

Things i went for in reaver were enraged essence and 3/3 grisly works then stopped. also of course master of abyss but i dont think i improved it. i dont use it that often and when i need it i always seem to have it up.

That's quite an Infestation especially for a non-crit

i was getting 1800s before, then somebody on the OBoards mentioned Creeping Death also boostings its damage.

So that is 3pt SLI, Soul Sickness, Infestaion, necro wounds, blood fever 3pt fiery burst, creeping death.... BOOM.

The build also apparently does 500 dps for me in my awful gear.

edit: 3070 crit in a duel. not sure if that was full power or not though.

Holy DoTs, Batman

That's a big burst, but **** is that a lot of setup or what.. still it'd be pretty solid snap threat (Reaver IS meant to be a tank after all)
