It was nothing interesting. I suspect Trion was trying to play it safe. By not making the world event special or noteworthy they avoided any legitimate complaints and long term problems, and instead caught a lot of empty threat cancellations about how the world event wasn't all that a person wanted.

Ok in before the ZOMG we hated it cuz it was just an invasion posts and general blerrrrggg.

When was the last time in an MMO I had a 2 week long intro to a new raid instance where you can do minimal effort and get some really cool items/pets/trinkets/rings... hmm never (sure you had the aq thing in wow but **** that was work :P), this was pure fun IMO. I think people were just expecting way to much with this, its a world event to intro the new raid instances not make the world a better place and put us on the path to world peace.

Basically my experience with phase 2/3 went like so, we got our guild together, killed a whole bunch of guardians, killed a few of the zone bosses using what we have learned in T2's to not just zerg them down and then going to watch some cool RP and play with the bosses and trash in a new raid instance. OBVIOUSLY not everyone can or has a guild that is going to do this so I can see why some would be upset with the situation but you gotta take this "World Event" for what it is, and intro to the new instance that's basically it and I think they more then accomplished that and even gave the folks who were not able to really enjoy/participate in Phase 2/3 some cool stuff for playing with the rifts and invasions during Phase 1.

I thought the event was enjoyable for the most part. I didn't mind the extras they threw in when they realized they needed to fix their server stability badly, although they HOPEFULLY realize that forcing the event to only run once is bad news overall.

Pretty much that. The zone invasions were fun and all, even if I did end up waiting a stupidly long time for them, but I was too low of a level to have any part in Phase 3 beyond trying to dodge level 50 mobs in Stillmoor to get to the Big **** Scene before it ended, and even before that, hey, "free" purple goodies are always cool. But overall, it felt like an incredibly unsatisfying end to something that Trion had spent the past 2.5 weeks hyping up.

Not going to go all "ZOMG THIS SUX I'M CANCELING NAO RABBLE RABBLE RAGE RAGE RAGE," but not exactly pumped for the next world event either.

For myself, I enjoyed the beginning. Phase 1 was a lot of fun, though it probably lasted about a week too long. Phases 2 and 3 were not terribly entertaining. Phase 2 wasn't much more than a normal colossus event, and phase 3 was pretty much a massive farce with huge server stability issues and event scripting bugs.

Still, if as they say, they learned from what went wrong with this one, maybe the next one will be amazing.

glad to see that over 50% of the people in this poll at least somewhat enjoyed it. I didn't understand why so many people hated it and decided to post the 100 posts about it in general after it was over. The only people who had a real reason to complain were people who had bugged bosses or server crashes. My server (tearfall) had no queue, very little extra lag, no bugged bosses, and no server crash. I even (as a level 22) got to see the inside of the new raid because I was in a raid group of high levels that entered. I really enjoyed it and will now have a good level 30 ring and trinket for my rogue once he hits it (and a ring for my mage, too)

I loved it but sadly never got to see a single Boss, they just didn't load. All I saw was Blam, Boom, Smash where the boss was on my mini map.

That happens sometimes when there are a lot of players in the area and the client caps the number of models it will attempt to display. Sometimes you can correct the issue by moving closer to the target.

It's was fun, I got a quest for a weapon that was worth it IMO. I got a TON of the death money (whatever its called) and got to see some zones I haven't seen yet. I just hope I can get enough of the death money to get a death guise before that leaves.

Look forward to the other elements.

People were complaining about the lag on my server and that the event was so short. I personally had a lot of fun although out of nowhere the guardians on my server that normally don't exist, roflstomped the 3-5 best guilds on my server during phase 2 and 3.

And apparently on Lotham a guild already finished the raid. That is kind of a small fail on Trion's part but also not unreasonable as it was the same difficulty as GSB. Hopefully Trion slows down a bit with new content and the next raid will be much harder than these past two.

My vote is still that the event was a lot of fun although I wish there were more higher level event quests. Clearing meridian of ghosts got old.

To my understanding there will be a Raid for each Dragon element. And ofc there will be progressively harder raids as we get closer to fighting Regulos (probably the last and hardest raid). As for some guild already beating River of Souls, so. On my shard nobody could even handle the raid trash so it's going to be similar to other MMO's where certain guilds/shards are rolfstomp in raids and others are not, nothing new. River of Souls is still the hardest content in game atm and even a full raid with nearly all wearing full T2+ are going to have problems at first.

Also it's my guess that we will see a new invasion world event with the release of each new boss type, i.e. Alsbeth was Death so Death invasion. The boss in IPP is Air (or Water), so probably Air/Water invasion, etc. At least that's what I'm guessing will happen as it goes in line with the game so far.

People were just complaining that if Trion can't make a new raid take more than a day then the longevity of the game in general may be put into question. I told them that they shouldn't worry. I understand where they are coming from and you do to probably. It was just worth saying. I don't believe that Hammerknell is connected to a dragon and it is most likely a raid or new regular instance eventually. And don't forget we still have 2 more continents in game to explore that are not in the game yet.

EDIT: And we agree btw :P just in case I failed to make that obvious.

I didn't get to participate in phase two or three because of the poor timing, which I still don't understand the reasoning behind. By starting phase two when they did, they completely eliminated Oceanic players as well as a good portion of the US players.

As far as the whole thing, I have mixed feelings. I like how they were ambitious with it and how they designed a big event for a raid introduction. My concern is the problems associated with the game as a whole, as well as the future state of it. Due to the queue issues at head start, my guild had to change servers, twice. The server we are on now has turned into a ghost town.

The population numbers combined with this event made a lot of problems glaringly obvious. I never saw a single Rift invasion over the entire course of the event, not one. Just doing the three death rifts daily took several hours because I was the only one in the zone clearing rifts. Also, the lack of numbers were forcing higher level players into lower level zones to try and get the rift bosses to spawn for a chance at the mount. They would leave the group private and tap everything as soon as it spawned, ******** over anyone who was trying to do it at the appropriate level. This wouldn't have been a problem if the mounts dropped from the contribution reward, but they didn't.

The concept was great, the design was a bit lacking, but they really dropped the ball on execution.

Which is probably why Trion is going to send an in game mail to active subscribers with Event goodies soonish, including the achievements for P2/P3. They realized that having such a short event, although lots of fun, was disappointing to some time zones, etc. The entire P2 (after a 3 hour delay) took ~48m on my shard, even with incredible lag. Here is the link to the post about Trion's gift mail for the first World Event:

Indeed. That being said, this guild does a lot of alpha testing for Trion as they are one of the top guilds in the game right now, so they probably had some idea of what to expect. I still find it funny that they beat it on the first night it was out though. My guild did have the distinction, however, of being the first to kill one of the trash mobs. It's a pretty cool zone.

Our raid totally went in and died on the first trash pull.

Granted, I'm personally PVP specced so I wasn't expecting to contribute (though I have like 120 hit rating or so in runes and rings in my packs) much.

We did get server first for killing ONE of the trash NPCs, though.

For this poll I would have even liked a category for "Enjoyed the event overall but was expecting a little bit more."

Its not just a matter of it being hyped up or built up because of the delays and I understand that this was an initial "event" type run and Trion is learning a lot and constantly making improvements, but overall I would have like to see Phase 2/3 just go on a little longer.

I also know that some people could care less and don't want all those big battles getting in the way of their questing so it could be spaced out a little bit by a few hours or something. I guess I just wanted Phase 2 to be more than it was. It worked fine on my server (sorry to those that didn't have a smooth phase 2) but as my friend and I were on Vent talking about the cool factor of all the invasion forces and running around Freemarches trying to contribute to the battle, it all ended in about 30 mins and then large groups were just cleaning up. Maybe this is because there was so much anticipated participation, but if it were a whole weekend of Phase 2 then the wealth could be spread out, the battles may last a little longer, and it would just feel like more. Adding to that, it would give more people a chance to participate, if it went on from say Friday evening to Sunday evening, so the rewards could just be part of the rift closures or a end event mail, but only for those that actually participated in something over the weekend (i.e. you had to fight at least one patrol, rift or foothold).

I know Trion is going back and just giving all active subscribers some mail for the event but I think if they just let the phase 2 World Event Invasions and big boss battles happen randomly throughout a period of time that is faster than an hour or so, like for the whole weekend or for one week, that would have been better.

Just my 2 cents, but I still appreciated the content and love what Trion is doing and has done with this game... keep up the good work!

Thanks

I enjoyed what little I got to participate in; did all three bosses in IPP in a full raid, alongside a full raid of Defiants who made it basically seem like it was a guardian vs defiant fight that the boss got in the way of. Though to be fair, after six and a half years of dealing with FFXI's old dev team, I probably have 10000x more patience when it comes to devs experimenting with stuff than most MMO gamers Smiley: laugh

I completely missed the second and third phases due to being busy on Saturday. Le sigh Smiley: frown

I did enjoy the first phase however. The rewards were good, and I had a lot of fun helping lowbies in the Guardians zones out with death invasions. From one zone event in Gloamwood I made around 60 OSS (back before they boosted the amount). That made my help feel worthwhile, as usually I just ignore the sound of lowbies screaming in pain.
