Holas, im only 30 and im having a tough time deciding what tanking roles i'd like to specialize in.

I would really like to get Void Knight up and running but I have basically no clue on how to tank properly with it. It seems it lacks a ranged damage move (aside from taunt) and the pact dumps are all basically one shots...I seem to feel the need to hoard them too much maybe? The AoE move is wonderful but overall the soul right now feel too goofy to tank in. Any suggestions on rotations(single / AoE) / specs / other tips? Is this soul not meant to be a main but more a supportive one? The soul seems too squishy for physical damage(yes I get its the magic tanking one but still)to allow me to sub reaver for better AoE.

Paladin i'm pretty happy with since the survivability is very nice and I seem to hold very well. Atm I'm tossing a couple of points into reaver for ranged AoE pulls since I don't get the 32 point ability yet, once I get that I'd assume that I no longer need reaver.

Reaver is just smooth sailing for AoE and good on single target. Even with the nerfs to DoT damage / healing i'm still liking it. Grisly works I have no clue anymore if it is useful. I didn't pay too much attention to how the self-healing was going on tonight (very tired) but does grisly works affect you without recasting soul sickness?

Thank you for any input.

Honestly i wouldnt even try to make a VK primary tank. Its not bad to dump 18 pts into as a 2nd/3rd soul. The good news is trion is aware of this and apparently plans to revamp the soul a bit (same for warlord). You can put more pts into it if you are needing a magic mitigating build though.

As for Reaver, i wouldnt bother with grisly works unless you are using the build to solo in. Pretty sure you need the killing blow to get it to proc.

Personally I have a really hard time abandoning Reaver in my tank builds, at the very least for plaguebringer and DoT threat. It's such a good setup for trash pulls and the bosses that like to spawn adds.

I think t reads that grisly works if the monster is tagged by you and killed. It procs very often when running dungeons.

Yeah im having a tough time getting rid of the DoT loveliness simply for Pyros who enjoy dropping the fire bomb thing before the mobs even get near me(Its funny to see DPS that not only DPS too quickly but also end up with low numbers).

Stinks to hear about the VK and I cant wait to hear about the changes because really atm it lacks some sort of ummph to make me interested more.

I'm still conflicted between reaver main and paladin main (mind you im only 30 so cant quite split as nicely). Both jobs keep getting nicer talents/abilities(reaver is garbage early on for mitigation).

Power in the Blood
Imbued Armor

Two awesome talents for damage mitigation.

Here is one of my builds that I am using
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=1cAhE.xuqzhzkc0z.E0Ruo0V.xE00zz#m1303157018179692615

Tons of block
Tons of damage mitigation
Some good utility

For trash you have
Cyclone
Master of the Abyss
+ 5 different AoE damage/taunts skills

On bosses you can use
Call to Entrench
or Spotter's Orders

with a good Single target macro that pumps Power of the Masses you can get a TON of dmg reduction and when you pop Call to Entrench you get another 5% plus 3% dodge (from Battlefield awareness)

Fun times all around

Thank you guys very much for replying with good builds/comments.

This is my reaver build
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhE.Euszh0kV0z.g0R

unsure on how useful wasting away is

my paladin build
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhE.xuo.E0Mh0cVszM

Ive had 0 chance of missing so far so im not too sure how useful it is for me as a low level. Damage by one hands im not sure if transfers to skills so I want with healing from blocks.

Again im no pro by any means but I do appreciate the input on how to be a better tank (really aggro is easy to hold in this game but i'd also like to minimize damage taken/damage given)

basically only difference is I chose is the have the 5% less damage over the 10% DoT due to DoT nerf. I'm up in the air and I dont think any real big difference.

You need to click "Link to this Build" in the upper right hand corner of the soul builder so we can see your build. The link your provided are just links to the soul builder with no build.

Wasting away would be awesome it it was -% to damage dealt I mean how awesome would that be; heck even it made it so their chance to hit you was lowered or something. But as is it's about as worthless as it's name implies.

Na seriously I would probably do something like this at level 30

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cAhE.xuqzhzkc0z.e0Rd

I think 3 points into PoTM is what the statisticians have gather concensus that any more it a waste cause you can put points else where and any less and it doesn't proc enough. As you level put more stuff in Paladin and by level 35-37 you should be good and then work on Warlord or Void Knight tree's.

Unyielding Defense is awesome by the way; it's probably the defining talent on the Paladin tree.

If you wanna play around with other skill that are higher on any tree go ahead it doesn't cost much to respec. I've probably repeced about 50-60 times and it only cost me about 35 gold so if you spec into something and it doesn't work the way you figured it would just respec.

Hmm good to hear. I would def go into the paladin tree for unyielding defense, you simply block too much to not grab it(I think even at my level I block around 43% with the shield bash move).

I dropped grisly works and did not notice enough of a difference in self heals from my last couple of runs, kinda dissapointing they changed it soo much.

The 31 point talent also was pretty lackluster.
