Hey guys, so I'm thinking about buying RIft. I played during the most recent free weekend, and I had a blast. I play WoW a ton, but lately Ive been getting burnt out. I like that Rift is different enough to still be fun, but not so different that the player is overwhelmed.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on Rift's longterm lifespan? Do you think it will last? I want to make sure the money I spent is not wasted, when in months from now there won't be anyone to enjoy playing the game with.

Rift is no more expensive to buy the game than say any other high end PC game like Oblivion or Crisis, etc. And those games people usually beat in a matter of days or weeks, then never play them again. Rift, as an MMO, has tons of "replay" ability where stand alone games do not. The point I'm making is that Rift, is worth no less of your money than any single player game that you purchase for the same price ($50-60). If you only play it for the first month's included game time, then you have wasted nothing.

Now my opinion, Rift is great and I enjoy it more than WoW (3 1/2yrs played), but you will have to make up your own mind on that.

I don't think people can predict how long the game will be active any more than they can predict how long you'll like it. If you like the game, you just have to roll the dice and see. :) It's my understanding they had a promising opening, and my shard seems plenty active, but really only time will tell.

Just my 2 cents...

I love WoW, played it since beta and took a break here and there but its a great MMO. Then in the middle of March I started playing Rift and during that first week I was also logging into WoW for a bit and playing other console games here and there. But after about a week I just stopped playing everything else - Rift was just getting too fun! So much to do, so much to see, I was getting my friends onboard, we started a small guild... BAM we are hooked.

This game has a lot of good and a bit they can improve upon but if you just count up the time I've played and not the sheer enjoyment factor I got my $$$ worth and more. Look at it this way. If you end up hating it, you can still go back to other games and you won't even be charged for the first monthly subscription fee. But I'm sure Trion is confident that people like us will want to keep playing because it is that good.

Now will I be playing a year from now? Does it have the staying power of other games, will it be able to keep its subscribers with other MMOS coming out (GW2, ST:TOR, etc.)? We really can't say. Getting to max level can happen fairly fast for this game if you blast though it, or you can take your time and play a bunch of alts like my friends and I are doing and just enjoy the game. Trion is doing a great job supporting it and has much more end-game content in the works.

To me it was worth it enough to sign up for a 6 month sub and not even bat an eye!

Later.

Depends on how much money you got. I enjoyed everything about RIFT except end game content. RIFT is such a love/hate game you're asking for opinions here. If you got the dough$$$ come find out for yourself.
