Hello not new to tanking at this game, but I was wondering if I am just paranoid or I really lack the stats needed for tanking.

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0chAE.EbRh0ciszMz.xzqdo.xc This is my build I have so far, as you can see I went pally/reaver/warlord and you can kind of see how I went for it.

Now at my current level I have 6.6k health my block precentage is pretty good I believe but my dodge and parry seem low at least compared to WoW. Dodge is at a weak 2.59% and Parry at 4.66% percent. Block chance is 46% which that's not what I'm worried about too much but I'd like some more.

Gear wise I'm decked out in mostly blues and greens and one epic. I've mostly been grabbing whatever plate I've seen with parry, dodge, and block I could get. Is this a problem I am going to face until I am level 50 with my defensive/mitigation stats being low? Or am I just not finding the right gear? Also I'm an armorsmith/miner/butcher so profession can slightly help if I get the right recipes.

Yes.

And by the sounds of it your not that far from 50 anyway, so... who cares :P

If you always want to be efficient with your tanking, then the best order of progression would be to gear up from normal AP and CC when you hit 50. Then once you get 50 toughness do t1 experts until you have all the gear you can get from them. Once you have 100 toughness (id advise against runing for toughness) you can start tanking t2s.

With this toughness comes gear with parry/dodge/block so you avoidance will improve. However i think my parry is around 5% and my dodge isnt all that stellar either. :P

Ok thanks, so now I don't feel so gimped as a tank. (Yet) In any case reason I asked all this was I saw a Rogue tank in FoLH when i was using my dps build (Paragon/Paladin/Champion ftw) and I watched him tank with hardly any damage dealt to him, granted he had a bard soul with him for healing and buffs, but he was amazing.

Rogue tanking ability ramps up real fast like that.

Take solace in knowing that you have a ton more tools at your disposal :)

Here's kinda the swing of which tanks get the most of which stat (mostly)

Dodge = Rogue, Warrior, Cleric (Cleric = "What's this Dodge you speak of?")
Parry = Cleric, Rogue, Warrior
Block = Warrior/Cleric (Rogues Block with their face)
Armor = Warrior, Cleric, Rogue
Damage reduction = Rogue, Warrior/Cleric

Also, don't forget that a piece of gear lacking "Parry+", "Block+", or "Dodge+" doesn't mean the gear actually lacks said skills. Strength and Dex are converted directly into Parry/Block and Dodge respectively at 1:1 ratios, so +16 str is essentially the same as +16 parry and +16 block, in addition to the 12 AP it gives. Once you know this it makes gearing a lot less of a headache, and while leveling, focusing a little more on Str/Dex than Parry/Block/Dodge will help your dps a bit and smooth out the grind (unless you don't use your tank soul for grinding, and only use it for dungeons, in which case that last bit is somewhat irrelevant)

Ideally, you want gear with +defensive AND +regular stats, but if given the choice between gear with only defensive or only regular stats, you're usually better off with the latter, unless the pure defense piece has some stupid amount of +stat on it compared to the other piece (+10 str +6 dex +25 end +15 parry +15 block vs +12 str +8 dex +15 end, for example)

I wanted to make some sort of witty retort about your block comment, but after thinking about how I tank with riftstalker, I have to agree with it's accuracy Smiley: laugh

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!
