For those of you who do or ever have chosen an RP Sever, do you actually Roleplay in your sever interactions?
Indeed good citizen, I oft traverse and parley around Telara in a manner befitting my calling!:0 (0.0%)
There is an occasion to greet and converse with my fellow comrades though I dare say not oft enough.:3 (75.0%)
Eh, I really don't like role-playing, just picked this server because it may be a little more generous on my newb skills.:0 (0.0%)
What the heck is role playing? Ohhhhh, so when I picked the server that has an "RP" in the Type description I was actually picking a "role playing" server. Cool... but what does it really mean???:1 (25.0%)
Total:4

Aren't polls against forum rules or something?

Harrow has a good deal of RPing going on Defiant-side. Can't attest to any other servers.

Well, I only ask because a friend and I decided to start up some chars on the opposing faction on an RP server just to experience it and join in the fun but it is surprisingly NOT role playing, unless you count the 2 people conversing in the inn with "*" in there text, putting me to sleep.

I envisioned says, tells, whispers, and all forms of communication and emotes to be coming in a manner which I can play along with but when I started that way in general chat looking for guild signatures people weren't responsive or just being dismissive. Then when I started seeing the "LFG RotF, dps and bu healz!" call outs I began to realize this server will be no different than any other.

Just curious... later.

You need premium to do polls.

I've never played on an RP server nor role-played in the proper sense. But my characters do have little personalities in my head (shut UP, that is not the same as little voices in my head) and I tend to be somewhat guided by them. Some of them just wouldn't, say, kill critters, or spec into evil souls.

My guess would be that real RP varies widely from server to server. I'm sure some are more active than others. I think a lot of people pick that "RP" just because they don't know what it means, as you suggest, or else because they think there will be less really annoying rogues named Icutulol there.

I am not a roleplayer. Its too much work to answer a question with "*squares his shoulders and pulls down on his lapels. sticking out his chest he clears his throat and, staring at Barkenstein, squints one eye and tilts his head slightly* 'Yes'."

I rolled a couple of alts on LotRO's big RP server, Landroval. I have got to say that it is an awesome server to play on even though I don't roleplay. The community is great, always helpful and very forgiving of newb spectacles. I never thought I would have fun just sitting and listening to a couple of characters playing music, but I did just that one night after running out of the inn and seeing a group of three minstrels and it was pretty cool. Other people were strolling by, some sitting in chairs nearby, and some doing the LotRO dance animation which is basically standing there tapping one foot and clapping.

It was also new and different to be running around the Shire and all of a sudden see someone announce in chat that they had logged on. I'm not going to do it justice, but it was something like "allo allo, Shirrif oingoboingo reportin' fer duty, if'n anyone be needin' some elp lemme know" and then see people answering with things like "oh I lost my pig Irving, could you help me find him?" And they were serious.

Landroval also had such a strong RP community that they had guilds that had backstories and whose characters never left certain areas, and they had both "good" and "evil" guilds and characters. For instance they had one guild that was composed of a bunch of highwaymen, and another that would patrol the roads. And meanwhile they really don't care if you don't RP because you are like "extras" in a movie, filling in the background, as long as you don't intentionally try to break their RP experience.

Although there were one or two who would get a bit miffed if you spoke OOC, which I learned means out of character, in general chat because you were supposed to speak OOC only in OOC chat. Which is a bit OCD because it all gets mixed into the same chat window. And don't tell me they can just run OOC chat because then how do they know someone is OOC in general? Eh? I know that you know that I know that . . . oh forget it.

I would definitely roll a character on an RP realm again.

So, anyway, my point is that you left out a choice for people who roll on RP servers because of the community and not necessarily for the RP.

just to keep my opinion separate from the poll itself, I'm double posting~

I play on one of the two PVP-RP servers, and honestly.... there's very little RP... on the surface. The bulk of the RPers tend to keep to themselves and avoid global chat and such, because global chat is... well... what one can expect from global chat; full of idiots and arguments about nonsense and shenanigans. You can find people RPing in say here or there, if you know what to look for, and a lot of people seem to have the courtesy not to interrupt said RP conversations, or to **** in unexpectedly. You have to work to find a good RP guild, but they do exist.

One thing I have noticed though... the gankers on my server seem to be divided into two groups. The first group generally do it for the lulz, and do stuff like knocking people off the top of elevators or towers, and generally suck at pvp (and I SUCK at pvp, so someone who sucks worse than I do is pretty sad). They're your typical troll gankers, who run around talking and acting like twelve year olds who just got their first *****.

The other group are usually slightly better at pvp (and by slightly, I'm being generous), but still can't handle anyone at or near their actual level, but while ganking they actually RP... I really want to call it Troleplaying, lol. They manage to be total douchebags and incredibly entertaining at the same time Smiley: laugh

Example of Group 1:

LAWL! DIE *****! FKN NOOB, U GOT PNT!!
/stuns you, then either destroys you or knocks you off the ledge and laughs at you, then possibly scores how well you dove.

Example of Group 2:

Hail guardian/defiant, I am <name>, and I'm here for your head. It's best you remember my name, as I'm going to teach you the power of the defiants/guardians!
/kills you once, waits for you to react, then proceeds to camp you until you and every other player until you manage to escape or they get bored

Edit, also, there's an RP guild on Sunrest called The Shipwrecked Pirates. They -always- speak like pirates, act like pirates, and plunder like pirates. They're ******* hysterical. My guild, theirs, and 2 others teamed up a few times and did a fullscale raid of Scarlet gorge, the first time we then charged, a mass of 50+ guardians, most over level 40, into stonefield, and right up to the back of Meridian. then proceeded to assault their front door. This lead to about a week of retribution from defiants in general Smiley: laugh The second time we managed to pop the Ancient Wardstone boss in Scarlet Gorge, but some random nubs tagged it before we got to it, half of us didn't even get to see it because it died so fast, lol. Then we marched into Scarwood and ransacked Perspice for a while, making sure NOT to attack people near the porticulum (DO NOT EVER DO THIS, YOU WILL DIE. HARD. (Aggroing the porticulum npcs for pvp results in level 52 elites popping and raping face, which happened to us in our first adventure, and many deaths were had)).

The point of that is that the entire time, TSP's members were shouting awesome things like "WE COME FOR YER BOOTY!" "Hand over yer womens!" and my personal favorite, which I saw both before the attack on meridian and the attack on perspice, "Prepare to be boarded, Lubbers!!"

there's also a dwarf-only guild called Clan Ironbeard, but I'm not sure if they RP or not
