Wrote up an article about my experiences as a Defiant character aiming for achievements in Silverwood and Gloamwood - enjoy!
http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=26130

I think I might add some more commentary in here - space is at a premium in the article itself.

Some other things not mentioned in the article:

I LOVE Gloamwood. Honestly, it's enough to make me level a Guardian character just to quest there. The zone fit perfectly together with the artifacts and the rare spawns. I discovered several "uncommon" spawns as well as the rares. First off was the Sludge of the Deep, which seemed to randomly spawn at the base of the waterfall next to Darkening Deeps instead of a goblin. This guy always dropped a green item.

Next, there was a Goblin Victim being harassed by two goblins north of Gloamwood Pines. I killed the goblins and was able to talk to the Victim, who gave me a Token of Gratitude. I was psyched to get a blue with things inside, but the rewards ended up being some crummy potions and a pittance of gold Smiley: tongue Oh well!

The elite I referenced in the Shadefallen Keep cave is named The Nightwalker. Guy hits like a truck - even at level 35 I got down to about 20%. However, both times I've killed him he's dropped a green and a blue item (a mystic's signet ring and a bow). Worth taking down if you have some friends, and it's an uncommon place to travel to, so it's likely he'll be up. Not bad for an artifact hunter who will be in the area anyway and likely at a higher level! I also ran into Buckley the Soul Stealer on my travels (based off the artifact story). He wasn't marked as rare nor elite, but he had higher HP, and dropped two blue items, including his necklace. I don't know why he isn't in our database - it's possible some of Trion's data hasn't come over for some reason. I figure he has some relation to Buckley the Travelling Merchant whom I discovered twice (once near the cottage, the other time under a bridge in Shadefallen Keep. The Travelling Merchant is usually best seen by the candles and fliers all around his location. I bought an item from him, but it didn't seem to make the enemy show up. Maybe I needed to buy them all?

To figure out how to get the artifacts from the vines in Gloamwood, I used Verpertine's youtube video. Vespertine also has an amazing map for Freemarch rares and artifacts, which I will likely use in a later guide, so kudos to him (her?)! As for the puzzle, I didn't find most sources all that helpful, and ended up using this blog to solve it. I found out later we have our own page on puzzles - should have checked here first!

I think that was about it for Gloamwood. Loved the atmosphere and the artifact placement here, as said... but rare spawns are SO rare! Smiley: mad

Gloamwood is almost too good. As a gaurdian the story is fantastic. Aside from some minor anoyances from having to run back to the pines to many times the zone is one of my favorites.

Many other zones after that one don't seem to have received the same level of love and care.

I really enjoyed Gloamwood when I played through as a Guardian during the beta. It is exactly what you'd expect from the "haunted forest" kind of vibe they set up. Gloamwood and Stonefield are easily two of my favorite zones in the game just because they set up an environment and a story that I really enjoyed. That, and Eth males remind me of Steve Urkle so watching one get curbstomped by a titan was pretty neat.
