My guildies seem to be mostly playing WoW again and every time my husband and I log in to Rift we're the only ones on. Which wouldn't be that big a deal except the shard is really, really quiet. The list of Harper Lee's novels is longer than the Who list in a lot of zones, and we could never get any of the events, invasions, etc. done.
So, says I, let's branch out and try a different shard, and obviously keep the current characters for when our guildies actually play, but otherwise check out the greener grass. And furthermore, says I, we've seen the Defiant starting zone like a bajillion times, and I'm sick of it, so let's start Guardians.
And what do I find, I ask you? I find that where the Defiant get a wasteland full of ugly old broken machines and zombies, the Guardians get forests with pretty houses and cute little fairies flying around! And don't give me your "Oh, but they're evil fairies," because obviously that just makes it better. Trion, I demand a more fair distribution of evil fairies across factions.
In other news, it's amazing what a difference being on an active shard makes. I'm out-leveling quests before I can do them because I can spend my night in a raid running around after rifts and invasions pretty much on demand. That's only in the starting zone though, I'm sure every shard gets a somewhat scattered population among mid-level zones.
Edit because they're shards, not servers.
