I just wanted to confirm this before I did anything, and the Zam page for these items doesn't have the "Currency For" tab yet. :)

The blue and purple shards you get from major zone events are zone specific, and you should spend spend spend them before you go to the next zone, yes?

I'd been saving them up, but then when I moved from Silverwood to Gloamwood (OMG COOLEST ZONE EVAR!) I noticed I got a completely different shard.

Yes and no - each of those currencies can be used for a "cluster" of zones, though otherwise you have the right idea. From what I've observed (note that I've only played on the Defiant side so far, so I'm guessing as to the lowbie Guardian zones):

Corrupted Sourceshard/Corrupted Sourcestone: Freemarch / Silverwood(?)
Cursed: Stonefield / Gloamwood(?), Scarlet Gorge
Vile: Scarwood Reach, Moonshade Highlands, Droughtlands
Ancient: Iron Pine Peak, Shimmersand, Stillmoor

I can confirm that it's also Silverwood, just used a few on my 16 Guardian last night. :) So I'd assume Stonefield/Gloamwood are the same.

I heard these can be traded for Planarite now - can anyone confirm or deny this?

The blue ones from the zones can be used to buy planarite off of the Rare Planar Goods vendor. Amount differs per sourceshard used of course.

Excellent. I will have to do that this afternoon. Planarite is more valuable to me at this point than the other stuff :P.

Just be prepared to do a lot of porting around if you have a large number of all the sourceshards.

But not the purple ones! /rage

They're even less useful while leveling since they're so scarce, and now I have a couple here and there with nothing useful to do with them. There needs to be something added for this...

I think you should be able to trade them in for a blue stone of higher level. Not necessary 1:1, maybe 5:1 or something.

I actually think that's a great idea! The purple ones should be tradable for a blue of the one higher than it (for example, you get a purple from freemarch, you can get a blue from Stonefield for it) even at 1:1 it still wouldn't allow for high level to farm them, they're still pretty rare!

I read somewhere on the beta server before the game came out there was a trade in for these, wonder why they took it out for release?

Not too bad actually. Just took going to Scarlet Gorge, Scarwood Reach, and IPP. I actually didn't trade in the IPP ones for Planarite - instead I spent them on getting some tanking essences since I've been working on a tanking set. :P
