So, I just started the 7-day free trial of RIFT. Loving the graphics and the backstory. Anyway, I was rather intimidated by the sheer number of classes in the game. I rolled my first character (a male Mathosian Cleric (Justicar)) but, being a tanking class, leveling is a bit slow.

Any suggestions for a good PvE class? I'm open to any suggestions, but I'd prefer to have decent DPS with okay to good surivivability. Healing ability is nice, but not required. (Sorry my preferences are kinda narrow...)

So, uh, thanks in advance for reading and replying!

first off its not clear by what you mean by "class"... typically we tend to use class and calling as meaning the same thing. (Rogue/Warrior/Cleric/Mage)

i believe you are inquiring about soul choices though... which are also called trees

for lvling a cleric pre 30... most people go with the shaman because it peeks in efficiency early.

At 31 there are 2 routes to travel... most hardcore players will argue for a inq/cab build that will allow you to basically rape groups of 4 but have pretty ****** (when compared to other dps specs) single target dps.

the other option is a melee dps route and put 31 points into druid for the pet, then splash some in shaman for more dmg. This usually ends up with greater single target dps, and usually better survivability due to the shield spells u can pick up in the melee trees.

Also after lvl 30 or so... lvling as a healer or tank is defiantly an option. With the new dungeon finder rewards, there are alot more groups forming to do dungeons.

Yeah, I was referring to trees and soul choices. Sorry. But I don't have to be a cleric, but it seems that's the only calling with healing ability...?

oh in no way is the cleric the only healer.

The mage can but a main healer just as good as any cleric... but their healing is done through life based dps and its actually quite fun.
And the mage has several souls that can self heal.

The Bard soul in the Rogue tree is considered support, and while it cant main heal, it can do enough healing for PvP situations and is typically the most desired support for dungeons (although i personally prefer an archon).

The warrior has little to no healing.

The one thing the cleric has that no other calling does is the ability to do all roles, so its a very good calling for new people.
