Tired of missing the emotes of Infiltrator Johlen and Duke Letareus? Would you like someone to tell you when these bosses throw a blinding bomb or unleash? Tired of reading Guild chat? Would you like the game to talk to you?

RiftSay is the answer for raid warnings and Text to Speech. If you turn on logging in Rift with /log log it logs all the boss emotes and chat into a log file that can be read. Riftsay scans the file and with the raid warning toggled on it will use Text to Speech to say the boss emotes that are defined. It makes tanking Anrak the Foul easier as you won't miss those tail emotes!

RiftSay is a free program I wrote because I'm dyslexic. It basically looks at the log.txt that game produces and says the content selectively. You can toggle buttons in the UI for Raid Warning as well as Guild/Raid/Party/Whispers/Yell/Achievements/Channels/To.

You can get it here:
There is a screen shot there. I'd include it here but they do not allow images.
That pages has a brief description as well as a link to the zip file. Basically unzip it and run RiftSay.exe (after starting the rift game and going /log)

Make sure you /log before you run the program. You need to do this every time you start the game or change characters. I do wish it was like combat log.

It is still missing from the UI:
log file selection, setting the ignore string and raid warning string. These are in the riftsay.ini file where you can set those and the web page has instructions on how to do it. It keep the setting between run there so you can set it up once and keep it exactly as you want it. I will be adding those to the UI later. Otherwise it should have all the other features working. Give it a try if you want and let me know if you encounter any bugs. I do not raid much so additional Boss raid warning text as feedback would be awesome!

It was written in Python and turned into an exe. Sorry it is a Windows only program. I do not have access to a Mac or I'd port it over to their SAPI engine. The zip file includes the source code as well.

Give it a try and let me know what you think.

No offense, but I'm a little wary of such a program. I'd like to get the moderator(s)' approval first.

looks legitimate in terms of what I can see of the code, not raising any AV flags. Assuming no one knows of any reason this would violate a EULA, i'm ok leaving it.

I wouldn't be too surprised, once the addon API is fully implemented, to see a TOS change forbidding the use of third party programs in conjunction with Rift.

There's just too much risk involved

I would always suggest a virus scan of any exe you get, even from me. The source code is included in case you are want to see what it is doing, or compile it yourself to ensure it is not doing anything odd. I am happy to help any one who wants to compile it themselves. My guild has been using it as beta testers and some use it for raiding. It is non-commercial hobby software. I used to EQWatcher in Everquest. I asked him if he would do a version for Rift but did not get a reply. So wrote a simple program for my own use with Rift. I figured I cant be the only dyslexic person out there, and that the raid warnings are darn handy to set up. I was hoping it would help folks enjoy the game more and make their life a little easier.

Give it a try, it is kinda fun really.

I'm following the Alpha addon forum. Right now the LUA is not exposing SAPI so I can not make this an addon. If they do expose SAPI I will write and LUA version of this.

This is posted on the official Rift Forums in a few places so if they do not like it, they have not responded yet. I'm not trying to do anything odd other than Text To Speech (TTS) of the log file. So it should be within the TOS. Go search my post or for Riftsay and you will find a few posts.

There is another addon doing TTS too, but it is a lot larger:
I found it after I had mine all coded, go figure, lol.

Funny thing is back in Beta I asked them to make a real time chat log so folks to could do TTS and they did. :) The thing is they logged everything not just chat allowing the boss emotes to be TTS. It is amazing how much goes into the three different logs.
