After completing my dailies the other day I thought I'd have a go at completing some of my Story quests.

I wandered off to Deepstrike Mines and very soon discovered that three 24 elites can kill a level 50. I did get to the second boss but it was painful.

I took my rogue (Ranger/Bard) back to Meridian and switched deeper into Bard so I had all the heals and went for another try. Again that second boss nuked me down when he should have been getting "resisted" against a target 25 levels higher. My pig went down even quicker despite all the healing I could put out.

I am forced to choose one of the following.
  • 1. I am completely useless and should stick to doing dailies (or possibly just give up altogether)
  • 2. The Rift elite model is like AoC where code prevents soloing - except I can solo world elites in some situations
  • 3. Soloing is more class dependent than I thought

I should perhaps chip in that I could happily solo WoW dungeons up to Violet Hold. I know this is a different game and I'm not sure if the mismatch is in the design or my ability.

Some background:
These 24 elites have less HP than mobs I kill daily in Stillmore and Shimmersand.
Gear is quested and crafted probably more purple than blue now.

umm what exactly do you think GW2 is going to be? The days of WoW style massively out gearing a place and solo'n raid bosses is done.

The entire game scales to your level. If you do not believe watch the damage they do to you on a 50 and then go back in there on the correct level toon.

I haven't done too much dungeon soloing in Rift. I did Iron Tombs solo in the high 40s and had a couple of close calls, but that was as a tank spec warrior (mostly pally). Personally, if I was going to try to solo a lower level dungeon on my rogue I'd go as a Riftstalker/Bard but even then the healing you'd generate would be sketchy at best. My warrior had not only the instant 100% self heal but also the shield block cooldown (which would proc a heal on every block).

Build is important. Hunter with a greater razorbeast allowing their pet to tank might have been viable in the right hands but I haven't really spent much time at all with a hunter build so I can't say for sure.

I recently soloed IT on my level 50 rogue who had half blues half greens in a spec i had lvled with.. Bladedancer, assasin, riftstalker.

this is just about how the build looked like:
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0MpVM.VIoh0o.xbdAhoMRodz.0VRcx0b'

Basically i used this macro

#show Flash of Steel
Cast Blade Tempo
Cast Poison Malice
Cast Flash of Steel
cast Disengage
Cast Reprisal
Cast Precision Strike
Cast Puncture
Cast Quick Strike
Cast Keen Strike

And a finisher which i belive was deadly strike.. once in awhile i pulled alot (when dancing steel was off cd), like in the first room i would charge to the first mob, get 5 cb points and pull the 2 packs close to and the big patroling guy, then popping dancing steel and watching them die.

I did the whole dungeon without problems, last boss hurt but i didnt die.

I can solo IT on my 50 Rogue without problems, but DSM and anything higher is impossible..or would take wayy too long to even try. Regardless, just grab a low level healer that I'm sure would love to come and it's cake, I have PL'd friends all the way through KB with just a low level healer. Usually I can even go dps stalker/assassin/bd build if it's a full group.

Thanks for the replies.

This explains how I had no trouble in IT - because I was helping a 23 Warrior - but hit such a brick wall in DSM.

I'll either wait for my daughter to want to take her warrior through there or find some willing person of the right level.
