Deepstrike and Briarcliff are the best for population. Rift pvp took a much bigger hit over the pve servers, since RvR never happened derrrr

PvE has been pushed more, but pvp is there and working pretty good. You will notice big crit attacks are basically gone in war fronts now. watch a guild wars pvp video and you will see why this idea works

Right, i was actually interested if anyone i knew was still playing, but it appears not. Have they increased the rate at which you rank up in pvp at all or has that been left alone?

Gone are the days of low rank bastards being put into the meat grinder

And about time too.. there's very little more frustrating than feeling like you have zero chance of doing anything useful in a warfront and are, in fact, taking up valuable oxygen just by being there as a detriment to your team. Which is pretty much what it's like being low ranked now.

Not exactly...you HAVE to get each tier gear to get the higher rank gear now. They're using a new currency for the upgrades as well which is also rewarded from a weekly quest and PvP rifts. You can spend favor to buy increments of the new currency.

The amount of prestige you need to rank up hasn't changed, but the pace at which you can earn it has increased. Escalation weekends with bonus prestige (and favor; similar to BG holiday weekends in WoW) along with PvP rifts and new daily/weekly quests that give you a bit more diversity in your options.

Also, with the way they changed the purchase of PvP gear, the overall cost has actually decreased compared to how much favor you'd have had to spend if you bought all of your PvP gear through all of the ranks. A lot of players (myself included) bought our rank 1 and 2 gear and then started hoarding favor to buy the rank 5/6 stuff, skipping ranks 3/4 altogether. With the changes to the currency/requirements to get the gear, you'll actually upgrade more often and spend less favor in the process.

care to elaborate on that last paragraph? What did they change with purchasing pvp gear? I had felt that the pvp gear "carrot" was dangled too far away compared to pve gear and I really lost interest in warfronts fast. think that was in 1.2 if not earlier. I've read that since then they have buffed valor pretty drastically, which i had hoped they would do.

Actually, they just revamped valor so that now a player in rank 1/2 PvP gear will have the same amount of base valor from gear as someone in rink 7/8 gear (works out to 30% damage reduction). There's still room to augment valor through runes and essences and such (up to about 40% total DR from valor), but they've basically made it so that the advantage gained from being high rank (in associated gear) vs. lower ranked player comes from the stats themselves (ie. increased damage/healing/endurance). There will still be a big difference between a rank 2 player and a rank 8 player, it's just that the extra damage/healing/endurance in addition to the extra DR was kind of excessive the way things were scaling. Anywhoo...

As you know, you used to accumulate favor and then buy gear with that favor. Every piece of gear throughout each rank had a fixed favor cost that went up with each rank and that was that.

Now, when you go to the rank 1/2 vendors, you'll see that all gear is still bought with favor. The big change comes when you go to the rank 3/4 vendors where you'll notice that instead of an increased number of favor to buy the rank 3/4 pieces, you need to trade in the previous ranks of gear in addition to some extra Marks of Retribution to upgrade. Marks of Retribution are bought with favor (1600 each). I was just looking at the rank 6 chest piece and it requires the rank 4 chest piece + 43 MoR. That's around 68k favor to buy a piece of gear that used to cost something like 120k favor, with the added benefit that you didn't spend ranks 3 and 4 struggling along in rank 1/2 gear just so you could afford the rank 6 stuff as soon as you could use it.

The short version is that the total favor cost to buy all PvP gear from ranks 1-6 has been reduced to what it used to cost you just to buy the rank 5/6 gear.
