Hello all, this is my first post on these forums! I'm currently playing Rift and I am enjoying it loads, been awhile since I've played a mmorpg that's actually challenging(at least for me :P) Anyways I have a couple of questions before I do buy the game.

The trial required me to download the client which was only small which suprised me at first then I realised that the exe i downloaded was the patcher client so the game had to be downloaded like that, thats all fine and expected. I'm a bit iffy about digital copies of things and would much prefer a "hard" copy. It's actually the same price(you save like 2 pence getting the digital version from Trion, but on Steam its the same price as a hard copy) too so makes sense to me to have a hard version of the game. Thing is does the hard copy work in the same way the digital copy does? Only has the patcher on the disk and then that proceeds to download the game the same way the digital version would. I know it sounds silly and I'm probably just being OCD about it.

Secondly whats the deal with Game time cards? how come they're cheaper than an actual active sub?(1 month recurring) Cheaper by nearly £2 which adds up after a few months!

Hope to be rifting again soon! :)

The box copies have a "most of the game" installer, but you will have to download all the patches that have come out since the disc was made.

Plus with a box copy, you have some nice artwork, especially if you get the collector's edition which was quite nice.

I don't know about the game cards in europe. Maybe they do work out to be cheaper. I just pay directly 6 months at a clip to get my discount.

I'm pretty sure the hard copy just includes the patcher. It might have some of the more static assets but I wouldn't expect having the hard copy would save you a whole lot of time/bandwidth downloading the client proper.

Also, as far as I know the game time cards are a little cheaper because they're 60 day cards so you get a bit of a discount. Maybe they have 30 day cards that are cheaper as well. I dunno. I have the founder's 6 month subscription plan and it works out to just over $10/month to play the game.

Thats what I thought but others say otherwise(Look below).

I was comparing a single 1 month sub to a 30 day time card, but I can only seem to order them online anyway as no shops in the UK sell them instore unless anyone can shine some light there. The reason I ask this though is because I don't wanna have to repatch which will take me over 20 hours(crappy Mobile Dongle but has unlimited usage)

You don't have to redownload the game client if you've got the trial client. There might be a small patch when you upgrade your account but you won't have to redownload the whole thing.

This is correct. IF you upgrade your account from the Trial it's just going to change a switch on your account :)
