Looking for item with the same model...Follow

I'm looking for a pair of plate gloves to finish out my equipment set. The only ones I've found so far are Whitefall Gauntlets (http://rift.zam.com/en/item/BA96B1AA0601010101/Whitefall-Gauntlets), but there has been only one on the AH on my server for the past week, and the asking price is 15 plat (which I am unwilling to pay when their may be other options). An image of the full set can be found here: http://riftwardrobe.wikia.com/wiki/Monarch%27s_Plate_Set

Has anyone seen any other gloves like those? Note that they *must* be something usable in a Warrior's wardrobe.

P.S. Would an option to search the database by Item Icon be unfeasible?

Probably. There's a kajillion of them. But I can inquire.

So, how would you use the icon search? By icon name? Look for "That hand thingie?" Why do you want it?

Zam could usher in a whole new age of AI by implementing a search feature that finds its objective based on a vague description Smiley: wink

ah, wait a sec. Now that I read the thread title, this makes a bit more sense. Even if we allowed search by icon, same icon definitely != same model all the time, and we don't get model in the data anywhere that I've seen.

Something similar to http://www.wowhead.com/items?filter=cr=142;crs=0;crv=inv_gauntlets_67

I know that there has to be some sort of identifier to tell both the Rift client and rifthead which icon to show for an item. The way wowhead does it (for the most part) is this:

1) Find an item with the icon you want
2) Click on icon to show icon ID.
3) Click on appropriate link to look up all items/spells/achievements with that ID.

Normally this would be a pretty useless feature, but it seems that most items in Rift that share icons also share models (if not colors), so if I could find other items with the same icon, chances are that that would lead me to items with the same model and possibly coloration.

This is true, but its better than trying to visit every vendor in the game (I've visited every Rare Planar Goods vendor and PvP vendor I could find with no luck so far).

I remember a couple of times specifically when I switched items and had no visual difference (before getting a wardrobe set), and in both cases the items had the same icon. So even if each item with a specific icon doesn't share the same model, it seems to be a safe assumption that all items which share the same model share the same icon. In this case, obtaining a list of items with the same icon would greatly narrow my search.

Yeah, not seeing model in the data. There are 4595 distinct icons across 52241 items. I have no earthly idea how I'd make a search for them.

I don't know how the data feed is laid out, but as far as UI goes the way Wowhead does it seems straightforward enough (click on the icon to search for other items with the same icon).

I'm assuming that you probably have the feed imported into an SQL database, in which case their is *probably* a field for icon id, correct? (I have no idea how rifthead's backend works)

SELECT <fields> FROM `items` WHERE `icon_ID`=<icon_ID>;

I'm only an amateur developer, though, so that may not be the best way to do it (or even accurate for ZAM Rift's systems).

Well, adding a link to a page to show other things with the icon is easy. Finding that one icon amid 55k items, on the other hand, is a different story.

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but ok. All I wanted was to be able to (for example) click the icon for Whitefall Gauntlets and see the other items with that same icon.

If its not a reasonable request, feel free to outright turn it down.

What you're asking for is easy. The hard part is someone saying "hrm, I've got these boots, I want gloves to match." How do you build that search page?

I haven't the slightest. One option might be to allow players to add equipable items to sets like they add them to vendors/mobs.

Yeah that's probably the only way to do it unless Trion wants to start listing which model set a particular item is part of (and they hopefully have more important things to be getting on with).

It'd be a totally crowd-sourced project similar to the wiki except made by people who are interested in fashion
