Dear Trion,

All I think it's safe to say that balancing PvE and PvP hasn't worked out too well.

So, why not balance them seperately and make everyone happy?

Thoughts?

Sincerely, Kokie

ummm k good suggestion right? I present to you the patch notes from 12/19/2011

Quote:

* Stormcaller: Lightning Burst now has its damage reduced by 30% in PvP. Text
* Stormcaller: The critical hit damage bonus provided by the Storm Shard buff is reduced to 25% bonus in PvP.

Is this just a ADD issue?

This is just a "I'm a derp who doesn't read the patch notes" issue.

It has been occurring since April though and NOBODY has noticed it seems. They just sort of started doing it and never made a big deal about it. In my top 5 list of reasons I unsubbed from WoW one was Blizzard telling this was not possible.

It is the quickest way to fix something OP in pvp, but needed in pve to remain viable.

Blizzard never did it because they weren't set up to do it. Trion set up Rift so that they could have abilities function differently in PvE and PvP from the beginning and it was the 1.2 (?) pyro changes where they first used that option. They've since used it on single target healing, certain paragon abilities, and now stormcallers.

This thread and the occasionally official forum post from people oblivious to the way Trion does things raises an interesting point. If Trion were to fully segregate all abilities and zero in on fine tuning for PvP, the community would be confused as all ****. It's a shame, really, but by now it's not really surprising. If you go by the opinion of the vocal minority, most players don't really seem to understand what is going on. They just log in and play and if things don't work out as they intended, they assume and kvetch. Based on past experience, I bet if I were guilded in Rift and I logged in on the day the SC PvP nerf came down I'd have to explain repeatedly what was going on because words are hard and most people would just see SC nerf and think it was a global damage reduction.

I absolutely hate it when a company does stuff like this, but I do understand why they do it. It has to be a pain trying to keep such a complicated game remotely balanced.

Anyway, my original point still stands. Some people never, ever read the patch notes.

Just adding to the lunacy, some guy posted on the official forums today to whine about the security breach, to include an indignant response to the audacity displayed by Trion in asking him for personal details such as where he met his wife.

Because what really happens in all of these cases is that hackers get their hands on such details and then use them to extort money and phat lewtz from gamers with e-mails like this:

"Dear guy,

We have the location where you met your wife. You must immediately forward 250p to the player known as "Aklsdf" on your server, and also deliver one stack of Ironpine Melange to each of our bots in western Shimmersands or we will use our time travel machine to go back in time and ensure that you never meet your wife. Ever. Not even a little bit.

We're serious. Srsly.

Signed,

hakzorz"

Sometimes I think that I could up my coolness 10-fold by being indignant over all kinds of **** that doesn't matter at all. Everyone else seems to do it...there must be something to it that I've just missed.
