New theory: Big = ContentFollow

So I have been watching the TOR sites for laughs lately and there are alot and this phrase comes up alot "TOR has more content then any game has ever launched with".

This has me confused because we are already seeing "I am 50 and bored out of my mind and the end game is faceroll:

Rift on launch basically had this:
10 5 mans
1 20man 5 boss raid
5 20man rift raid
5 5man expert rifts
4 war fronts

TOR on launch has this and this is breaking it down to bare bones:
15ish flashpoints?
2 16man raids with 2 different modes..nightmare is not released yet
Ship which is a house thing I guess
3 battlezone

I think I have figured out what is going on. Trion needs to up the size. Say if you have a tree that is like 10 feet tall in game right now.

Trion needs to make that tree 50 feet tall. If you walk into a building and it is 10 feet tall make the building 50 feet tall. Why? There is no why or logical reason to do this, but I am of the firm belief people see big and equate it with content.

Am I the only one noticing this?

I'm just...you know...personal opinion here...but can you just not turn everything into a "why Rift is better than SWOTOR" deal? You're making yourself look insecure and a little paranoid.

Heh. Several times now I've restrained myself from the "Every time a new MMO launches" speech.

heh it is better then the Rift vs WoW debates. I just find it mildly entertaining to be honest. There is just this massive deal about how great TOR is, so the obvious question is what does TOR have that Rift does not.

I mean I guess we could all play dumb and pretend like TOR did not exist or try and figure out what the appeal is outside of WoW in space.

We could not care what the other games are doing and just enjoy the ones we enjoy. But that's just me!

Fact is, it isn't important in the slightest. WoW vs Rift vs SWTOR vs Aion vs EQ2 vs The Realm.... doesn't matter

Play the game or games that you enjoy and have fun with. It isn't important what one has that another doesn't, if you're having fun playing something, that's good enough.

You're the only one I see outside the official forums making any sort of deal about it, and frankly, the less the official forum nonsense finds its way here, the better. ZAM has done a pretty good job over the years of keeping the generic idiocy so much a part of official game forums away and I kind of appreciate that.

hmmz so I try and spawn a conversation asking how size relates to content and how Trion could approach Rift going forward and the follow up comments attack me for even daring to post.

If I wanted to go off TOR trust me I could and have, but as you said Zam usually does not have people interested in that type of back and forth. This is a very simple idea of simply making everything bigger for the sake of it being big.

I saw multiple reviews from various sites saying Rift was small and that always confused me. Then I saw the list of what TOR had or what WoW had on Cataclysms launch and it makes me wonder.

I am a big fan of Trion using every square inch of each zone.

Everywhere I go you're on this forum or that raging about SWOTOR. You're not just trying to start a conversation...you're trying to find a place where people will actually indulge your rantings and ravings. I'm probably the most abrasive person in this corner of the ZAM network but I've been around long enough to know that in-depth conversations are few and far between. Most folks around here lean on the light-hearted and frivolous side of the discussion spectrum, and that means that if you want to get any sort of discussion going, your motives have to be more or less transparent and ideally beyond reproach. When I can point to one of your posts on another forum blasting a podcast host for enjoying SWOTOR PvP instead of Rift and still come here and find posts from you telling people to unsub and threatening to quit if such-and-such ever comes to pass, your motives are more transparent than you think and not in a good way.

Less manic (and ideally fewer bullet lists propping up trivial points) will go a long way for you. Pick a side of the fence and stay on it.

I wonder what this odd thing is where people are scared to criticize new games. So you expected everyone to be happy about TOR and just jump on board?

So your saying I do not have the right to compare the two games? I mean I can show you trolling if you really want to go there. I can also show you hypocrisy when that podcast you are referring to for the past 3 weeks have cancelled shows related to Rift and the host have been seen playing other games and have admitted to not playing Rift.

All while at the same time asking viewers when they bother to make a show even related to Rift for donations to support that show?

TOR is going backwards in the genre. For all the things Trion copied atleast they tried to improve where they could and take a model and have mass appeal with it. Legacy system takes priority while 50 are roflstomping lowbies in full pvp gear or the GTN is the biggest joke running in mmo's right now while one review site after another says "9/10 MUST play".

All I did was compare SOME BASIC differences in size and you have read me the riot act. My question was simple. DO YOU think Trion needs to go bigger? Would you prefer I edit the original post and insert the word WoW in place of TOR? The two games take a different approach then Rift and I have to wonder could it work for Rift.

Y'all are doing an awful lot of reading into each other :)

Puremallace, I can't tell if you're just super-excited for a (thus far) mythical 1.7 or you really hate SW:ToR. You've the right to compare anything you like, hon. But folks also have the right to agree, disagree, or to not join the debate. All we ask is that you keep it civil.

What I think you're running into here, Puremallace, is a lack of interest in the Rift vs ToR debate.

I just sit over here and avoid opinions, lol. Too many games on my plate.

It is not just TOR because when WoW fans say this I get just as confused. This sort of matters to Rift because there is a expansion in the works where we travel to the planes of Life or death (I HOPE!!)

How big should they make it? Should they use the realism style they have been using that everyone keeps calling small or take the TOR/WoW approach and oversize it?

Should a tree in the plane of life be 10 feet tall or 50 feet tall? A zone in that plane should it be like Stillmoor or the entire continent of Telara? Trion is going to have to approach this same thing TOR is doing because the planes are circling around Telara and if you see the defiant observatory they look like planets.

I guess I'm just not into second-guessing devs, lol. Enjoy your speculation!
